Hilarious Instagram highlights the best places to pee in Portsmouth

I’m just going to kick off this party by saying that I’m a big fan of the bathroom selfie. I don’t care if they are outdated. If I go out to dinner and feel good, chances are I’ll take a quick bathroom selfie to document the moment. And if someone comes in and catches me in the act, SO.

Last week my bad selfie struck again at Portsmouth Music Hall as I was judging the Seacoast Culinary Challenge. Music Hall’s bathrooms are notoriously chic and stylish. They also have a reputation for offering excellent selfie lighting. I can confirm that all of the above is true:

Then my girlfriend Brittany commented on my pic saying “Hey! This is my favorite place to pee in Portsmouth” and then tagged @peeinginportsmouth. Pee in Portsmouth is a real Instagram account. Of course, I did a deep dive or “deep creep” as we call it on social media.

The bio made me laugh right away:

A search from number one to number one. What is the next step ? 🚽〽️ Friday messages. Lurkers on the tastes, but the tastes are nice.

The person behind the account chooses to remain anonymous, which just adds to the novelty for me. I’m not assuming sex, but he/she/they have hilarious potty comments around town. Each review begins with “I peed on ______ and did a great job”.

Here are some of my favorite reviews:

The Statey

“Ice cream, cigarettes and pinball are all 0.50 cents per serving.”

BRGR BAR

“It’s a bar where you can get brgrs. I also like trkr brgrs and cherkin ternders.”

Cure Restaurant

“Fantastic room color. Loved the olive.”

You want to follow this account now, right? Excellent choice.

I slipped into the DMs of the anonymous ‘Peeing in Portsmouth’ admin just to compliment their work and see if they were ok if they wrote a little post about their account. They gave me their blessing and also a little story about the account.

Peeing in Portsmouth started in August. The admin had a feeling it might get bigger, but he didn’t expect more than 1400 followers with just 33 posts. Everyone is so positive with their comments and posts in general.

Many have DMed and emailed with appreciation for the usefulness of the account. The images inform followers about the handicap accessibility of a bathroom, which people find extremely helpful. This, admittedly, is not something the admin thought of when initially starting the page, but they are so glad the content was helpful.

It became a bit of a promotional page that was also not anticipated but fully embraced. The admin enjoys supporting local businesses and uplifting people in our community.

The foodie and restaurant/brewery accounts have been big supporters by following, liking and sharing the content. Even the city council emailed them telling them to “keep up the good work on Instagram.”

They don’t know how long they will keep the account, but they really like to remain anonymous. It is refreshing ! The content only tells us about the places they visit and does not show where they have personally been.
