Hill Country’s Coziest Airbnb is a Converted School Bus in the Forest
Venture into the Texas Hill Country and you’ll stumble across a cool retro school bus, aka “skoolie,” that’s been converted into a luxurious Airbnb destination. Nestled in a wooded spot in Cedar Creek, Texas, this eclectic Airbnb rental is touted for its sublime stargazing experience.
“If you want to get away and live a tiny life in a beautiful place with stars for days, you have to stay here!” Airbnb guest Stephanie wrote.
The retro public school bus has been renovated into a cozy Airbnb cabin nestled right next to McKinney Roughs Nature Park.

“We also wanted to stay somewhere unique and different from a traditional Airbnb house or cabin,” guest Nikki D. wrote. “We enjoyed walking our dogs on the creek trail and sitting on the patio enjoying a nice fire.”
If you’re looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of Houston, this quirky school bus seats up to four people and comes with one bedroom with two beds and one bathroom. Perhaps the strongest appeal of this destination is its proximity to some of the best natural sites near Cedar Creek and Austin.
“We visited McKinney Roughs, Bastrop State Park and one of the county nature trails,” Airbnb guest Caitlyn wrote. “So many places on Airbnb are really unwelcoming, but this one is.”
The creative host for this Retro School Bus is Kathryn, who has an impressive 4.91 “Superhost” rating, which usually translates to a “an extraordinary experience for their guests.” Customers can book this bus for $285 per night.
