Ever since jurisdictions, including Canada, legalized marijuana, cannabis-friendly homes have bloomed faster than seedlings in a greenhouse.

HiBnb (hibnb.ca) is at the forefront of this trend. The Toronto-based booking agent manages more than 300 cannabis-friendly vacation rentals in North America and beyond, as well as tickets to events and festivals that celebrate reefer madness.
HiBnb is similar to Airbnb in that property hosts advertise on an online platform and welcome travelers to private accommodations of all sizes and styles.
But with HiBnb, the accommodations are all weed friendly and in many cases are located near pot-focused events, including 420 festivities (a reference to April 20, the annual date for doobie celebrations).

These options are blessings for travelers who cannot take advantage of traditional hotels or hostels. A 2020 survey survey in the United States by Forbes and Travel Agent Central reported that more than 6.5 million millennials and Gen Xers had experienced pot-friendly destinations and that 29% of all leisure travelers to the United States wished.
“We connect the cannabis community with cool places to stay,” said HiBnb founder Elizabeth Becker recently. “We received 12 new accommodation announcements today and we can hardly keep up with the demand.
“Canada is poised to become a world leader in marijuana-related tourism, possibly with cannabis-centric events, activities and excursions.”
In general, Canada’s climate is a challenge for ganja growers, but Becker says the crop from the Okanagan Valley (known as BC Bud) is “killer” and she sees great potential in the rich agricultural region of Niagara.

In Canada, guests can bring their own bud to their rented dope digs. To stock up, HiBnb partners with approved retailers to sell and deliver infused products like lemon-lime sparkling water, snack foods such as ice cream sandwiches, CBD oils, and topical creams for The healing.
Because you can’t cross borders with drugs, some foreign HiBnb accommodations provide food, drinks, or pre-rolled joints, as well as paraphernalia like bongs, vaporizers, and pipes. Hosts aren’t allowed to sell, but they can hide a welcome gift of brownies in the fridge or a bath bomb in the tub.
HiBnb’s destinations are as varied as the product line of a cannabis store.
A studio apartment in Greater Victoria, BC, located between the beach and the charming village of Sidney-by-the-Sea, has a smoking patio and provides a grinder and rolling station. Customers can pre-order marijuana products and a nearby dispensary will deliver them. The city is full of bakeries, breweries and bike paths.

The Five Star Ranch, a picturesque farm about 70 km west of Toronto, is full of gardens and animals. A century-old barn has been converted into a country cottage with a gym, sauna, swimming pool and hot tub. The host, an accomplished equestrian, nutritionist and grower, allows smoking in the covered outdoor areas. If you need to score some points, there’s a marijuana store near Campbellville.
An all-season retreat called Weekend Wellness in Algonquin Highlands, Ontario thrives in a northern landscape of towering trees and tranquil waters. This cluster of 15 progressive cabins offers group meditation, yoga or qigong, massages, lake activities, evening gatherings, and walks in the woods. The owner, who allows outdoor smoking, sees cannabis as herbal medicine and a “psychedelic ally” in the journey of relaxation and self-discovery.

Pot growers in the hills around San Francisco cultivate a weed of renowned potency and purity. One such farm in Watsonville rents out a sprawling home with a chef’s kitchen and pool, and guests can light up on the porch while enjoying sweeping views of the countryside, wildlife, and marijuana fields. This idyllic getaway is near the beaches of Monterey Bay and the vineyards of Santa Cruz.
In Jamaica, smoking ganja is a way of life and joints are rolled as big as bananas, but maybe you’re ready to take it to the next level with mind-blowing hospitality. HiBnb’s most trippy experience is a five-day psychedelic retreat at the Rastafari Indigenous Village, a jungle-like estate near Montego Bay. Guests wake to the sound of songbirds and a rushing river, then savor plant-based meals and Rastafarian rituals. Each visit incorporates “visionary plant” materials such as psilocybin or mescaline.

The cannabis travel rush is the latest phase in the evolution of marijuana from 1960s counterculture fodder to major commercial product.
HiBnb also books accommodations in Puerto Rico, Portugal, Mexico, South Africa and Central and South America, and Becker intends to expand to Germany and the Czech Republic as cannabis legislation evolves. Travelers should follow local laws regarding the use or purchase of cannabis and legal age.
