Inside Neymar’s international real estate portfolio

Currently competing in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, Brazilian footballer Neymar da Silva Santos Júnior (better known simply as Neymar) has made a prodigious name for himself as one of the best footballers in the world. So it should come as no surprise that this year Forbes placed him in the number four on their annual ranking of the highest-paid athletes in the world – his estimated earnings of $95 million in 2022 puts him behind only Portuguese soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo, legendary basketball player james lebronand his Paris Saint-Germain teammate Lionel Messi, who took first place. Neymar, who plays as a striker for Paris Saint-Germain and the Brazil national team and once played for Brazilian football club Santos, has understandably accumulated an extremely expensive list of luxury properties. Below, we take a look at some of his most prolific real estate deals.

2013

In 2013, Neymar signed with Barcelona football club and would have started paying around $18,000 a month to rent a contemporary-style mansion nestled on 10,764 square feet of land in the quiet, upscale neighborhood of Pedralbes, where Shakira and his ex, Neymar’s former Barca team-mate Gerard Pique, also called home. A short distance from Barcelona’s Spotify Camp Nou arena, the modern five-bedroom, five-bathroom structure had a landscaped garden decorated with sculptures, a large swimming pool and 5,382 square feet of living space on three floors with views of the coast and the city. The owner of the property, a businessman linked to the Barcelona football club board, offered to rent the house to Neymar after the athlete initially struggled to find a satisfactory permanent home in the area and had to start training and playing with his new team. While there, the football player had access to a top-floor master suite with panoramic views. Other highlights of the luxury property included a very large dining room and an eight-car underground garage.

2016

Neymar found a home in Barcelona in 2016 when he paid $5.2million for a 7,879 square foot mansion in the district of Castelldefels, where Messi also resided. The contemporary-style three-bedroom house was situated next to a 10,764 square foot garden and swimming pool, situated on a hill with picturesque views of the Mediterranean Sea. The house, which also featured a gym and two living rooms, once belonged to fellow Brazilian footballer Ronaldinho.

That summer, Neymar too attracted media attention when he posted photos on Instagram of him hanging out with justin bieber and other friends at $8,496 a night Airbnb mansion inspired by an 18th century Castle of Versailles. The lavish seven-bedroom, 12-bathroom abode spanned 22,000 square feet and was adorned with crystal chandeliers and intricate millwork. Highlights included a grand staircase, private movie theater with leather recliners and wood-paneled walls, wine cellar, gym, multiple tennis courts, swimming pool and spa, all located on a five acres of land.

That same year, the athlete also paid $8.5 million for a house in Mangaratiba, Rio de Janeiro, the same neighborhood of the seaside town where Sylvester Stallone filmed The Expendables was shot. Neymar spent the early days of the pandemic in quarantine at home with a group of friends. Set on two and a half acres, the six-bedroom luxury property is certainly an ideal home to get stuck into: it has an open-plan living and dining area that can accommodate up to 14 people for dinner, a sauna, a massage room, a 3,000-bottle wine cellar, a gym, a pool table and even a underground disco which the party-loving footballer later built up while stuck at home with an ankle injury. The contemporary home features stylishly decorated interiors, with an eye-catching floating staircase in the living room and a modern kitchen with a breakfast bar. Outside, plenty of patios for lounging and alfresco dining, a swimming pool, an oceanside hot tub, a tennis court, a beach volleyball court, a helipad, and a pier where Neymar moors his 15 foot yacht lie. It seems that the athlete still maintains this house.
