Iowa State Tight Ends wins Heisman Academic Award

Charlie Kolar is the best tight end to ever play at Iowa State, and he’s racking up more material to back that up. His latest victory is the biggest individual award ever for a Cyclone football player.

The Ames Tribune reports that Kolar was named the winner of the prestigious Campbell Trophy at the National Football Foundation awards show on Tuesday night. The prize is awarded annually to the football player who best combines studies and performance on the pitch. This is the Heisman Academic Trophy. He goes to the nation’s top All-American on the court and in the classroom.

In a statement, Kolar said: “It is an incredible honor … to be recognized along with the other winners of this prestigious award, I am very grateful.” Kolar not only received a nice trophy, but also a graduate scholarship of $ 25,000. La Tribune reports that Kolar believed he had a responsibility to learn and not lose this opportunity. It’s a value he says he learned from his parents.

Kolar is a two-time All-American at Iowa State and has been an All-Big 12 pick for the past three straight seasons. He holds all of Iowa State’s tight records, including career yards, receptions and touchdowns. La Tribune reports enter the next Cheez-It Bowl with catches in 35 straight games, the second longest streak in Iowa State history and the fifth best streak in the country. Kolar graduated from Iowa State last fall with a degree in mechanical engineering.

Iowa State will face the # 19 Clemson at the Cheez-It Bowl on December 29 in Orlando.
