Sam’s First Day in Heaven – Samuel A. Woods Obituary

After being welcomed in paradise with open arms on Wednesday December 1, 2021, Samuel Adam Woods was heard saying to Saint-Pierre: “I am crazy, but I am not stupid”, the punchline of a centuries-old history shared in the Bodie and Jo Woods house in Ruston.

After checking into his new home, Sam was caught smiling from ear to ear when he arrived around the corner to see a wall full of guitars and an endless library of books, a fitting addition. since Sam loved to read, learn and explore from the start. in his childhood. Speaking of childhood, you would love his sister, Jill, who would later marry Steve Goates.

Together they welcomed Grant, Gregory and Grayden and would settle in Tyler, Texas. Shifting gears, Sam was caught telling the angels about the origin of his bedroom furniture and insisted that if they didn’t buy the floor model, they were paying too much. It was his way of life.

After all, he grew up in Bodie’s Furniture, the furniture store his parents successfully ran for 46 years. This knowledge, of course, became part of Sam’s DNA.

He worked twice as hard when he left the family business. He ignited his career when he franchised a mattress business in Indianapolis, Indiana with his high school girlfriend and wife Elizabeth Anne Blakeney Woods, the daughter of Jay Gordon Sr. and Evelyn Blakeney, who are also the parents of the twins. Jay Gordon Jr., who would later marry Lane, and their daughter, Mary Catherine, who married Alejandro Ogata.

After selling his franchise, Sam rose through the ranks of “MFRM” and helped build what would become one of the largest mattress retailers in the world. This journey took Sam all over the world and he built something even bigger than the business: a network of friendships that would rival any other.

After nearly two decades working for the mattress retailer, Sam found himself working at Vua N_m, where he used his previous experience in the mattress business to create one of the largest mattress retailers in Vietnam ( sounds familiar to you?). Finally, Sam entered an industry in which he was completely new: motorcycle parts as well as related clothing and accessories.

Comoto Holdings, based in California and Philadelphia, allowed Sam to reconnect with his childhood where he spent his time riding motocross with his friends.

Satisfied with the quality of his new quarters, Sam was ready to explore the golden streets he had heard about all his life. He embarked on the bike of his dreams, a KTM adventure bike, and quickly found himself meeting a few notable people in Heaven. Surrounded by Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, he was quick to compliment them on their narration in the Bible, but they were caught off guard when he began to review their conversion numbers and discussed his strategy. to bring more people to heaven.

Continuing on his first day in Heaven, Sam had dinner with some of his friends, including Steve Burdge, a former colleague and friend, and they had a great time catching up. Sam was thrilled to hear that a few of his favorites – Buddy Holly, Jimi Hendricks, Janis Joplin and Tom Petty – would be performing that night.

Unsurprisingly, Sam was arrested backstage playing guitar with the musicians and proudly talking to them about his son, Harrison Elijah Woods, and his band, the Electric Sundaes. Sam didn’t take no for an answer when he explained why they had to agree to let Eli’s group open for them someday.

On stage, the musicians were greeted with thunderous applause as they spoke about all of the people who were to gather at Temple Baptist Church on Saturday, December 11, 2021 at 11 a.m. to commemorate Sam’s life.

Immediately after that, this same group was to meet at the Squire Creek Country Club for a celebration of Sam’s life. After finishing Sam’s first day in Heaven, he slipped into his new king-size bed, took the pic of Liz, Eli, Woody and Thurber (their two miniature dachshunds) on her nightstand, looked at her with a smile and whispered: you, sweet love. I love you son. “He heard softly,” I love you, sweet dove. I love you daddy. ” Then quickly, and frankly quite loudly, drifted into his first ever “Papa Bear” hibernation.
