They say “go big or go home”, and for this year’s Miami Art Week, Surface goes further and better than ever with immersive art-meet-Web3 programming at W South Beach. Those planning to be in town for Art Basel and Design Miami/VIP Days can look forward to joining Surface for a series of stimulating living room-style conversations, a disco lightwave bungalow and opportunities to party with our community of artists, designers and creators.

From today, discover our Bungalow at the W South Beach, produced in partnership with Polygon, a decentralized scaling platform for developers and creators to create applications and digital collectibles and bring them to Ethereum. The Surface x Polygon Bungalow will serve as an immersive center for creative discovery with facilities for MokiBaby, Off-limits, Space laboratories, LNQ, To reproduce, Prism Collectiveand WowRuthless Studiosand a showcase of designer furniture and collectibles by Kartell, Yellowpop, Djivan Schapira, Bert Fernandi, Ara Thorose, ABDB designs, Neal Aronowitzand more. Surface x Polygon: Sustainability, doing something in the Session lounge
Location: W South Beach

Blockchain technology has a notorious carbon footprint, right? In this salon session, Surface and Polygon will showcase next-gen thinkers and doers who are leveraging web3 technologies and real-world action to fight climate change. Prepare to discover your place at the intersection of art, design, climate action and the channel. Moderated by Surface editor Ryan Waddoups; speakers include: Garrett Nathan of the Better Days Foundation; Veronica Gessa/MokiBaby; Nori’s Aleksandra Guerra; and Manda Kalimian of the Cana Foundation. The trade show discussion will begin at 3:30 p.m.; Refreshments will be served.

Saint Laurent Right Bank: Sex by Madonna Exposure
Location: Waterfront on 17th Street

Saint Laurent takes over at Art Basel Miami Beach with an exhibition of photographs by Steven Meisel from Madonna’s groundbreaking art book, Sex. Madonna and Anthony Vaccarello have teamed up to reissue the book, published in a limited edition of 800 copies by Callaway New York with the corresponding exhibition curated by Vaccarello himself. Selected copies of the book will be signed by Madonna and sold at a charity auction to benefit her Raising Malawi philanthropy. Adults 18 and older can view the Art Basel Miami Beach exhibit through December 4.

Pilar Zeta and Miranda Makaroff at W South Beach
Location: W South Beach

As part of Miami Art Week, works commissioned by site-specific artists will be presented to the public at W South Beach. To catch future transmutationan interactive sculptural garden and large-scale installation by Pilar Zeta on the hotel lawn, and head to the property’s WET Deck for Miranda Makaroff’s An amphibious love story. Markoff’s work exemplifies a colorful marine world that plays out in cabanas at W South Beach, adorned with abstract neon lights and ocean “creatures” floating in the pool.

Showcase Yellowpop x Andy Warhol
Location: Yellowpop Wynwood

From November 30 to December 4, Yellowpop’s Wynwood store will transform into a neon gallery, highlighting its latest arrivals collaboration with the Andy Warhol Foundation. To celebrate the arts of the present, past and future, Yellowpop will also offer its customers the opportunity to turn their NFTs into the custom LED neon signs the brand is renowned for.

SCAD at Design Miami/
Location: Design Miami/ Booth X09

For this year’s Design Miami/ show, SCAD has collaborated with internationally acclaimed Mexican studio Cerámica Suro on vibrant collections of glazed tiles by former SCAD artists Nicolas Barrera, Lauren Clay, Gonzalo Hernandez, Cory Imig, Abel Macias and Nikita Nagpal.

Reflecting the unique creative visions of the artists, the tiles are presented in a dramatic arched intervention by Barrera. The immersive installation, which also features new lighting and furniture designs by former SCAD Marcelo Suro (BFA, industrial design, 2022), transforms over the course of the fair, with a different collection enlivening the space each day. SCAD at Design Miami/ embodies the university’s mission to provide students and alumni with the opportunity to showcase their work on an international platform.

Other viewing opportunities are available: Thursday, December 1 (11 a.m. to 7 p.m.), Friday, December 2 (12 p.m. to 7 p.m.), Saturday, December 3 (12 p.m. to 7 p.m.) and Sunday, December 4 (12 p.m. to 6 p.m. ).

Tina Frey x Curio at the launch of Faena Bazaar

Curio at Faena Bazaar has partnered with a famous homeware designer Tina Frey to launch a collection of resin pieces in five exclusive styles and colors. Frey, Curio Founder Danielle Licata, and Curio Buyer and Curator Monica Exposito will celebrate the collaboration with a live chat about the new collection, hosted by Surface associate editor Jenna Adrian-Diaz. Afterwards, guests can look forward to mingling with co-hosts over signature Body Vodka cocktails.

Surface x Polygon: the portable Internet lounge session
Location: W South Beach

For wearable technology, the future is now: we are living it. In this salon session, Surface and Polygon is home to a tech prodigy and entrepreneurial genius Iddris Sandu to share how NFC technology and blockchain are making authentication, iterative ownership, and supply chain transparency more visible than ever. Get excited to learn more about what’s cutting edge in wearable technology as the LNQ founder shares what’s in store for 2023. Surface senior creative writer Nate Storey in conversation with Spatial Labs and LNQ founder Iddris Sandu. The trade show discussion will begin at 3:30 p.m.; Refreshments will be served.

Kartell Miami Flagship Store: Grand Opening Design Conference
Location: Kartell Miami

Located at 490 Biltmore Way, Kartell Miami’s flagship store is located on quaint Mediterranean-style streets and just blocks from Miracle Mile, one of the city’s premier shopping districts. The store opening is part of the Miami Art Week calendar and will be preceded by a special discussion with Roberto Palomba, during which the designer will give his vision of contemporary life. He will be joined by The Grand Tourist podcaster Dan Rubinstein.

Surface x Model No.: ‘From Waste to Wanted’ Opening Celebration
Location: Solana Wynwood Spaces

Artist Mike Han, Prowl Studio, 3D motion designer Natalie Liu and Model No. Furniture are joining forces on an installation that transforms salvaged wood scraps into sought-after objects using 3D fabrication. A story of circularity that meets technology and imagination, the collection harnesses the physical and digital to create coveted objects without harming the environment and sheds new light on the lingering question: is there a better way? ?

Stop for a night of art, conversation and refreshments. Can’t party? The exhibition will be presented in the Solana spaces from November 29 to December 13.

Celebrating the Unveiling of the Typoe Sculpture Garden
Location: The Underlined Soundstage

Airbnb and Nasdaq have partnered with Miami artist Typoe to create a new public sculpture garden on The Underline to serve as a living and breathing space for connection and belonging. Join the artist for a cafecito with Miami Mayor Francis Suarez, followed by an art talk with Airbnb President and Founder and friends of the Underline, Meg Daly, hosted by Miami’s Jane Wooldridge Herald.

Surface x Polygone: Salon session on communities, collectives and cohorts
Location: W South Beach

Shared spaces, from neighborhoods to metaverse niches, create community and foster creative expression. In this trade show session, pioneering leaders in creative spaces will discuss breaking down the boundary between physical and digital words with a focus on inclusivity. Moderated by Surface associate editor Jenna Adrian-Diaz; speakers include Worthless Studios Founder and Creative Director Neil Hamamoto; Bonin Bough, co-founder of Group Black; LRG of Prism Collective; art curator and author Tam Gryn; Fairchain co-founder and CEO Max Kendrick; and Gianna Valentina, Head of Partnership Marketing at Spatial.io. The trade show discussion will begin at 3:30 p.m.; Refreshments will be served.

SCAD President and Founder Paula Wallace will participate in a conversation with José Noé Suro of Cerámica Suro and SCAD Alumni Abel Macias, Nikita Nagpal and Marcelo Suro. Together they will discuss this year’s SCAD showcase in Miami.
