Las Vegas looks so much like Texas it’s crazy

While I love Central Texas, my goal this year is to eat love around the world. I have lived in Texas most of my life and still feel like we are probably the most hospitable people you will ever meet.

When I say the most hospitable people you’ve ever met, I’m not talking about all Texans because I know there are some assholes out there – I’m talking about central Texas.

I thought I would never find a place as welcoming and pleasant as our corner of the country, so imagine my surprise when I went to Vegas.

LAS VEGAS IS MY SECOND HOME!

The Central Texas terrain was a melting pot for thousands of people from all over the world and we have the Fort Hood station to thank for that. It’s very rare that you find someone who is actually central Texas (we’re talking born and bred) due to the military base.

I decided that instead of meeting people here in central Texas, I would meet people all over the United States and my first stop was Las Vegas, Nevada. I went to Las Vegas last weekend to celebrate my birthday with my family and friends, and I can’t stress enough how much this city reminds me of my hometown.

Of course, we don’t have the big lights and names or Celine Dion in residence, but there were three key factors why I think every Texan would love to go to Las Vegas.

HELLO, COWBOY

When you first step off the plane in Las Vegas, the first thing you notice is the desert and all the cowboys. I’m not talking about the Dallas Cowboys, I’m talking about saving a cowboy cowboys horseback ride. I saw more horses and spurs this weekend with the Southern accented gentleman saying hello than I’ve seen in all of Texas. I was really surprised.

ALLOW ME TO INTRODUCE MYSELF

Another similarity between Las Vegas and Central Texas is that they are some of the nicest people I have ever met in my life. I’m talking about hospitality off the roof.

Everywhere I went people were saying hello, how are you, which is very strange to me because I’ve vacationed on the West Coast before and no one has ever been so nice.

AND THE COWBOYS?

Last but not least, the number of Dallas Cowboys fans you’ll find in Las Vegas is truly something special. I thought the Texans were serious about their Cowboys, but I can assure you that if you go to Las Vegas, speaking ill of the Dallas Cowboys could get you into a real bar fight. (I saw one when I was there.)

I love that even though I’ve decided that this year will be all about travel, eating amazing food around the world, and learning new things about other states, it was really heartwarming to know that Vegas felt a bit like home.

Vegas may be Sin City, but you’re good in my book!
