Latvia records nearly 250,000 visitors in June, twice as many as in 2021

The number of international and domestic visitors to Latvia in June this year reached 245,900, twice as many as the figures for the same period last year, according to a recent analysis provided by the Central Statistical Office of Latvia.

At the same time, compared to the statistics of the previous year, the number of overnight stays by travelers was 430,400, which is also twice as much as compared to 2021, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.

Moreover, the data shows that in June 2022, 129,700 foreign visitors were accommodated in tourist accommodation establishments, marking an increase of 6.2 times more than in June 2021.

According to the figures, the number of nights spent by non-residents increased 5.7 times and reached 232,100.

Compared to June 2021, the number of Latvian visitors welcomed increased by 14.6% to 116,200. At the same time, the number of overnight stays by residents of the country increased by 14.5% to 198,300.

“In the second quarter of 2022, the number of foreign and resident visitors to Latvian tourist accommodation establishments amounted to 556.3 thousand, which is 2.3 times more than in the second quarter of 2021”, reveals the statement published by the official statistics of Latvia.

The same source pointed out that compared to the second quarter of a year ago, the number of overnight stays by visitors increased by 2.2 times and reached 991,100 overnight stays. In addition, visitors spent an average of 1.8 nights in tourist accommodation establishments.

Meanwhile, in the second quarter, the number of foreign visitors was 291,200, which is 6.7 times more than in the second quarter of 2021.

As a result, statistics reveal that the number of nights they stayed increased by 5.5 times and reached 541,300.

The countries from which the most foreign visitors came to Latvia are:

  • Lithuania, with 51,100 visitors
  • Estonia with 39,000
  • Germany with 33,700
  • The United Kingdom with 19,400
  • Finland with 17,700
  • Ukraine with 11,700
  • Poland with 11,600
  • The United States, with 10,500

Most of these foreign visitors were received in Riga with 74.1%, Jūrmala with 9.6%, Liepāja with 3%, the municipality of Sigulda with 1.5% and Ventspils with 1.3%.

Moreover, during the second quarter of 2022, tourist accommodation establishments welcomed 265,200 Latvian residents, which is 30.2% more than in the second quarter of 2021. On the other hand, compared to a year ago, the number of nights spent by residents increased by 24.9% to 449,900.
