Lima native credits unique mentor after winning $2,000 on JEOPARDY!

ROCHESTER, NY (WROC) – A Lima native and Our Lady of Mercy alum took part in the game show JEOPARDY! Wednesday.

Elizabeth Meisenzahl, representing the Greater Rochester area, put her knowledge to the test and came in second place, getting her total in play up to $10,001 behind returning eight-day champion Cris Pannullo. (Second place finishers can win $2,000).

News 8 caught up with the 21-year-old ahead of Wednesday’s episode.

Being featured on the hit game show, she said, has always been an idea on her to-do list. His love for trivia, however, began at an early age with the merit of a special mentor.

Meisenzahl said she took the test online in late spring when she received an invitation from JEOPARDY! for another round of testing, then another.

“A few weeks after that, in June or July, I got a call asking if I could go out,” Meisenzahl said. “It was kind of like a to-do list, like something that would be cool to do eventually. I certainly did not expect this when I took the test. It was more for fun, or to say that I had done it.

It all comes down to love for JEOPARDY! Meisenzahl’s family share, watch the show most nights together, as well as their time at Mercy.

She joined the Masterminds trivia club in seventh grade. She credits longtime coach and history teacher Richard Myers for introducing the game.

“I was reading a question and I was like, ‘Nobody’s going to get that answer.’ Elizabeth was buzzing and she was giving the right answer. I was always like, ‘Elizabeth, how did you know that answer?’ Because again, she seemed to know so much. So much,” Myers said.

Myers said Meisenzahl was a “wealth of knowledge” and most games were won with her on the team. He remembered the moment when she had told him that she had succeeded on JEOPARDY!

“I was definitely happy for her. I was excited, but to be honest with you, I wasn’t that surprised. Elizabeth is a young woman who, when she decides to do something, finds a way to do it. do,” Myers said.

Regardless of the outcome, Meisenzahl said she’s grateful to her family and Myers for their continued support. Myers continues to coach Masterminds for Mercy and said he will watch on Wednesday with pride.

Meisenzahl is a senior at the University of Pennsylvania, preparing to earn her bachelor’s degree in history.
