Limited-edition specials make this Dallas restaurant a sizzle

This roundup of Dallas restaurant news features some of the usual openings and one of the usual closings, but the overriding theme is new dishes. Most are either new for summer or available for a limited time. That means you can’t waste a minute, go ahead and try them out before they’re gone.

Here’s what’s happening in Dallas food news:

wild salsa, the Mexico City-inspired concept from DRG Concepts, has reopened its Collin County location at The Village at Fairview, after closing due to the pandemic in March 2020. Returning dishes include poblano tamale, Gulf redfish, Chicken Milanesa, ensalada Mexicana, Sonoran enchiladas, shrimp tacos, tacos al pastor, chicken tinga tacos, chocoflan, churros and homemade salsa with avocado and tomatillo. New dishes include tamale conchinita, esquites and a Cobb salad. The location has a patio with games such as foosball, cornhole toss, and shuffleboard; “hammock” porch chair swings; and a fajita grill on the patio for special events. The restaurant is open Wednesday to Saturday from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Reopening dates for the original Wild Salsa in downtown Dallas and Wild Salsa Fort Worth are yet to be announced.

bonchon opens a location in Frisco on June 20, in the Frisco Village shopping center at 4760 Preston Rd. in Lebanon. The first 100 people in line receive a free five-piece chicken and a t-shirt. Frisco will join three existing locations in the Dallas area, with another opening in Fort Worth in the fall and two in Houston.

Einstein Brothers Bagels opened a new Dallas location at 4113 Lemmon Ave. where it serves bagels, bagel sandwiches and drinks. The company is also launching its popular Everything Bagel seasoning in partnership with B&G Foods in grocery stores nationwide. Made up of sesame seeds, dried onions, dried garlic, salt and poppy seeds, it’s the seasoning blend used on their popular Everything Bagel and can now be sprinkled on any dish you you want.

scooter cafe, the drive-thru chain of cafes, has opened a McKinney location at 8650 W. University Dr. where they will hold a grand opening week June 20-24. Since it is a drive-thru, maybe several cars will all park in a circle.

XO Coffee Company, a sweet cafe in Old Downtown Plano at 1023 E. 15th St., closed Sunday, June 5. The owners released a statement saying it was with “great sadness”, saying “it was a very difficult decision and one that came with a great deal of consideration and thought.” It seems to have been a location issue, as they said they were looking for potential new locations that would serve their customers better. They had been there since 2016.

McNeal’s Tavern and Restaurant is a sports and fine dining tavern in historic downtown Plano at 1422 Avenue K that opened in late spring with a menu of fish & chips, bangers & mash, seafood pasta, sea ​​and shepherd’s pie.

Shake Shack, the New York-based burger chain, is building a new location in Plano at the intersection of Park and Preston, at 5009 W. Park Blvd., right next to the recently opened Velvet Taco. Construction has only just begun – there isn’t even a partial building yet. This will be the second Shake Shack in Plano; the first opened at 7401 Windrose Ave. in 2017.

Ellie’s Restaurant & Lounge introduced a new set of dishes for the summer. The menu still features fan favorites, but with new options, including a tomato, watermelon and buffalo mozzarella caprese salad with smoked almond and basil pesto, red micro shiso and gastric sherry; red miso-glazed pork sirloin and lobster fried rice; chicken madras salad & stuffed gougère smoked almonds with arugula-watercress salad; and golden tomato gazpacho with green tomato relish and lavash crackers.

Open pallet, inside the Sheraton Dallas Hotel in downtown Dallas, offers a new dinner menu with seasonal summer dishes, including strawberry rhubarb salad with whipped goat cheese; watermelon Panzanella salad with feta; pea risotto with citrus fruits and shiitake mushrooms; shrimp and smoked gouda grits; chicken with corn succotash; salmon with romesco tomatoes & eggplant yogurt; apricot cheesecake; panna cotta with citrus fruits and candied orange pistachio; and Valrhona chocolate summer mousse.

Bar Jinya Ramen offers two new dishes for the summer: Spicy Maze-Men, which looks like ramen but without the broth, with extra thick noodles, Japanese umami bonito aioli sauce, chashu pork, kimchi, eggs, onions and seaweed; and Otsumami, a Japanese dish with chashu pork, chashu chicken, seasoned eggs, sautéed bamboo shoots and spicy bean sprouts.

Perry’s Steakhouse & Grill has a new limited-time flight to New York, featuring a total of nine ounces of Texas-style Kobe Wagyu Beef, Nebraska Prime Certified Angus, and Japanese A-5 Wagyu Beef. It’s available through June for $99.

The Biscuit Factory has a new seasonal special for June: Chipotle RazzBrie Chicken Biscuit, featuring fried chicken, brie cheese and raspberry-peach chipotle sauce.

sweetgreen has three new dishes for the summer: the Summer Teriyaki Bowl with okra and a teriyaki sauce with tahini as a base; summer vegetables with pesto; and peach and goat cheese salad, available until August 10.

Dickey’s BBQ offers a new King’s Hawaiian Spicy Chicken & Cheddar sandwich with smoked chicken, cheddar, jalapeños and spicy barbecue sauce on a sweet King’s Hawaiian Bun. It is available until August 28.

At Ziziki’slocated at 11611 Preston Rd., at Forest Lane in North Dallas, offers a new summer menu, including stuffed chicken breast with vegetarian orzo and shrimp cocktail served with avocado and bread pita.

Taco Bell launched two new items: The Quesadilla Burrrger is part Tex (burger) and part Mex (quesadilla), made with Nolan Ryan beef, pico de gallo, guacamole, lettuce, queso and Cholula dressing chipotle ranch, between two crispy cheeses and warm quesadillas. Brisk Dragon Paradise Sparkling Iced Tea balances tropical dragon fruit, raspberry and blackberry flavors with a hibiscus tea base, with a refreshing fizzy sensation.

Pie Five Pizza presented the Old World Maggie, a reimagining of their Margherita pizza topped with fresh mozzarella, olive oil, grape tomatoes, Parmesan and fresh basil. A personal-size pizza on a thin artisan or traditional Italian crust is $5 with promo code OLDMAGGIE through June 26.

7 eleven added a new dish for summer: Hot Honey Boneless Wings, a boneless wing in a honey-sweet chili glaze with roasted garlic and chili.

Eataly Dallas has a dessert for the summer called gelato coppe, dubbed the Italian answer to an American sundae, with gelato topped with Fabbri amarena cherries, candied local pecans, Venchi chocolate, and more.

The salty donut offers Pride Donut, a Rainbow Funfetti Cake Donut made with vanilla frosting and topped with rainbow milk crumbs, Swiss buttercream and edible disco sprinkles, June 20-26. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Resource Center Dallas.

Urban Seafood Company celebrates its first anniversary in downtown Plano. The restaurant is owned by Urban Family Concepts, the family-owned hotel group that has two other restaurants in the area: Urban Rio Cantina & Grill and Urban Crust Wood-Fired Pizza.

Ill Minster Pub at the Gables Villa Rosa residential building gets the boot. According to a petition of residents, Gables Villa Rosa Management is not renewing the pub’s lease and will instead turn the space into short-term residential spaces à la AirBnB & VRBO. The petition notes that Ill Minster Pub has built a strong community of customers who are dedicated to supporting local businesses and allows residents of Villa Rosa to go to a bar in the building, a safer option. Their last night is June 25.

Carbon, a New York-based restaurant, was sued by Carbone’s, a Dallas-based restaurant, for trademark infringement. According to Carbone, the similarity of names is confusing. The 34-page lawsuit was put online by NBC DFW.

Dallas-based chef John Tesar received a Michelin star for Knife and Spoon at the Ritz Carlton Orlando, Grande Lakes. Knife was also awarded the best steakhouse in the United States in 2022 by Goyot.com.
