Man arrested in Fort Lauderdale for fatal shooting near BNA

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – A man has been arrested in connection with Tuesday’s fatal shooting near the entrance to Nashville International Airport on Sunday.

Jamaican national Brandon Swaby, 20, was arrested by U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at Ft. Lauderdale Airport, police say. Police say he was trying to fly to Jamaica.

Metro police say an arrest warrant from Nashville has been issued charging Swaby with criminal homicide. He will remain in the Broward County Jail in Florida until he returns to Nashville.

Police say 22-year-old Gallatin resident Christopher Brandon McCabe was fatally shot around 5:45 p.m. Tuesday night on Donelson Pike near the entrance to Nashville International Airport.

According to a police investigation, McCabe arranged via Facebook Marketplace earlier in the week to trade in his BMW sedan for a Dodge Charger.

On Tuesday night his BMW broke down on Donelson Pike. A person in the BMW called McCabe for help. Police say McCabe drove to Donelson Pike in a relative’s SUV. An argument ensued and McCabe was fatally shot inside the SUV.

Police say after the homicide Swaby traveled to Atlanta and flew from the city to Fort Lauderdale on Sunday where he was arrested by Customs and Border Protection officers of the United States with the help of federal partners.
