McDonald’s delivered to Airbnb home of Tamworth headquarters amid standoff | United Kingdom | News
An officer wearing a body armor and helmet was pictured with a bag of food and a hot drink at the scene in Tamworth, Staffordshire. Police today continued their work to end the standoff, which began around 10.30am on Tuesday amid reports of a man with a crossbow.
A woman said birmingham live she was staying at the property and said it was an Airbnb.
Some residents were unable to return to their homes. Others were ordered not to leave their homes as officers worked to calm the situation.
A Staffordshire Police spokesman said: “Officers remain at the scene of an ongoing incident at a Cross Street property in Kettlebrook, Tamworth.
“We were summoned to the address at 10.30am yesterday (Tuesday 6th September) following reports of concerns for the welfare of a man. The man had refused to leave the property and several threats had been made .
“He has since spoken to specially trained negotiators who remain at the scene. No one has been injured.
“A temporary road closure remains in place and we are working hard to end the incident safely, for everyone, as soon as possible. We would like to thank local residents and businesses for their understanding and patience. throughout this period.”
A neighbour, who is currently staying with his parents as the scene unfolds, said: “I came back from work yesterday and saw the cord – I didn’t know it was here. The guy at the inside got the police out, two or three weeks ago, trying to get him out.
“Security or something came and I think they were trying to kick him out. Then the police were called about 30 minutes later.”
When asked if the property was being used as an Airbnb, as local reports suggest, they added: “It’s his house, but random people stay there from time to time. I’ve never seen of trouble from anyone staying there.
“There were a lot of issues then with him trying to keep their possessions. He seems a bit of a nightmare.”
Airbnb has been approached for comment.
