Thirty-eight years ago, before Bills Mafia and before Jim Kelly was QB, these three die-hard Bills fans began a journey that continues to this day.

ORCHARD PARK, NY – Our latest segment in the 12-part series is about an epic road trip tradition that began in the ’80s.

Thirty-eight years ago, before Bills Mafia and before Jim Kelly became QB, these three die-hard Bills fans began an adventure that continues to this day.

Steve Shaw, Mike Denzel and Bryan Widmann are all from western or central New York and moved to work in California. In 1985, the trio saw Vince Ferragamo and the Buffalo Bills lose in San Diego. The following year saw the Bills on the road against the Oilers.

They went to all the old stadiums together, and now the charter is to go back and see all the new ones.

Other than 2020, the year of COVID, the same three people here have attended a Bills game every year for the past 37 years. This season has been a short road trip, watching the Bills win at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.

A few other friends have joined over the years. The trio usually decides the venue when the program comes out. They went to London, Carolina and Jacksonville. They even visited Buffalo once, in 1987. Since then, they have attended every Bills game on the road.

They went from traveling in an RV to staying at AirBnbs. The Bills’ record is 14-23 when guys watch them play.

Mike says: “Because of this trip, I always see my best friends and it’s on the calendar every year. I can tell you that this weekend I laugh the hardest of the whole year, either creating new memories, or remembering the weekends we’ve had for the past 37 years”.
