Memphis family seeking answers a week after Binghampton man murdered

A Memphis family struggles to be grateful this Thanksgiving after their loved one was killed last week.

Dwight Payne’s family is still begging for answers and justice after his murder in Binghampton.

On November 17, Memphis Police Department officers responded to the 3100 block of Faxon Avenue at approximately 9:45 p.m., where they found a man lying unresponsive in the front yard.

He was pronounced dead at Regional One.

Adrian Charleston, Payne’s sister, said: ‘At the moment we have nothing to thank but to wake up to.

It’s not what you expect to hear from anyone this holiday season, but it’s the harsh reality that many families in Memphis have to deal with.

“What happened to him?” Charleston said. “I can’t tell you what happened to him. We are also trying to find out.

Charleston said his brother was pursuing a rap career and was called Lil Slim.

She said her absence from the community was already being felt.

“He’s a very well-known rapper,” she said. “Highly known activist at the Pursuit of God Church.”

The MPD said this investigation is ongoing and no suspicious information is available at this time.

“It’s been a second child my mom has lost this season. Plus a grandchild who was just murdered,” Charleston said.

She said she hopes that when the answers to what happened start coming in, justice will come sooner rather than later.

β€œIt hurt. It hurt a lot,” she said.

If you have any information about Payne’s death, call Crime Stoppers at 901-528-CASH.
