Missing 5-month-old baby found safe in Indianapolis

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Kason Thomas, the 5-month-old child taken alongside his twin when a woman stole a vehicle they were in, has been found safe in Indianapolis.

Columbus police say Thomas was found alive inside the stolen car wearing the same clothes he was wearing when he was taken away. The car was found near a Papa John’s on Indiana Avenue.

“IMPD is grateful that Kason Thomas was found safe and sound earlier this evening,” Indianapolis police said on social media Thursday evening. “We would like to thank the IMPD officers and detectives who worked to locate the baby and the suspect. Additionally, we would like to thank the members of the community who assisted in locating him.”

Nalah Tamiko Jackson, the woman accused of kidnapping Thomas, was arrested in Indianapolis earlier today.

Police say Jackson stole a vehicle from a Donatos Pizza in the Short North neighborhood of Columbus around 9:45 p.m. Monday. The Kason and Kyair Thomas twins were inside the car.

Kyair Thomas was located Tuesday at Dayton International Airport, but Kason Thomas remains missing.

Police also issued a “be on the lookout” (BOLO) alert for law enforcement and residents of Michigan, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Indiana and West Virginia.

At a press conference Wednesday, Columbus Deputy Chief of Police Smith Weir said the department had formally filed charges for two counts of kidnapping against Jackson.

Jackson was later captured on video at a gas station in Huber Heights asking an employee for money. Police said Jackson had previously been arrested for child endangerment.

This is a developing story and will be updated once more information becomes available.
