Oculis Lodge will open in April 2023 in Washington State with a giant skylight

Oculis Lodge looks quite dreamy: a domed structure with a 15-foot skylight above, allowing you to gaze at the stars until you fall asleep. Although it is built in the wilderness of Washington in the Cascade Range, it’s a luxury rental with a heated yoga space, a private six-person hot tub and four-person sauna, and smart home technology. When it opens in April, the first stays will go to Indiegogo donorsbut the rest of us can still participate (at the time of this writing, the Kickstarter has raised $276,039, far exceeding its goal of $10,000).

The eco-concrete dome itself will use 50% less energy to heat and cool than a similar structure made of different materials. Architecturally, the 700 square foot dome is mesmerizing and lets you immerse yourself in nature with that skylight just above the bed. The interior, interestingly, is oval, not round! Inside there is a bedroom with a king size bed and a full bathroom, then an upstairs loft that can sleep four. The design features a sunken living room to relive 70s dreams (plus another great view through that skylight) and a full kitchen. The unit consists of three connected round units: the dome itself, an outdoor cushion with a lounge area with fireplace, and the jacuzzi area. On the deck is a hammock for more stargazing. There’s even – you guessed it – a telescope planned to get up close to those interstellar views.

This makes the dome, foyer, and yoga/spa area surrounded by green grass.

Nearby is Mount Baker, just a 25 minute drive to its ski slopes. This mountain has already won the world record for the most snowfall in a single winter season! It has glacier covered peaks, mountain meadows and ancient forest with tons of activities for all seasons: hundreds of miles of trails for hiking (including waterfalls and rivers), biking, ski. The Oculis Lodge will be surrounded by 7 acres of undeveloped land, about as private as it gets. What do you eat in this desert? You can pre-order food on the website and it will be stored in your fridge when you arrive. this includes organic fruits and vegetables, breakfast and dinner kits.

Can’t wait for the opening? The same design is already in place in Costa Rica in Igloo Beach Lodge– but these rooms at Oculis will be larger and allow for longer stays.

A render shows the bedroom with light streaming through a round window. A desk with a wicker chair is next to the bed.
