OMG, I want to rent this house: Boulder, UT

Bedrock Cave Homestead, Boulder, UT (Airbnb): This house is a bit smaller than our usual specs, but it’s mentioned because it’s perhaps one of the most unique houses we’ve come across, especially since those who love the outdoors start getting ready for summer trips. Located eight miles outside of Boulder, UT, it’s not just a vacation home and it’s not just a cave, it’s a work of art!

The natural caves leave so much to be desired. They don’t always have the right proportions, the right cozy corners, the most modern temperature controls. But the beauty of staying in a work of art like this is that it uses natural materials – real living rock – but it was man made. This is a custom cave created by the owner, who lives in the adjoining cave house.

The guest portion of the cave is completely private, with two bedrooms that each have a queen bed and a sofa, meaning you can sleep up to six if you wish in your 2022-cum-vacation.Flinstonthe fantasy.

Just because you’re staying in a giant stone doesn’t mean you have to live like a member of the Stone Age. Not only do you have a kitchen to use, but more importantly, there’s a grill on the visitors’ private patio where you can cook all the meat you hunt…at the Boulder Grocery.

Despite appearances to the contrary, it is not an open-air cave. The openings were walled with glass, to better see the Grand Staircase-Escalante monument. The owner describes the effect as “like sitting in a painting!”…which has the added bonus that he didn’t have to buy art to decorate the walls. (The cave and surrounding area is art – duh.)

Have you ever seen a more appetizing table filled with heirloom tomatoes? In order to enjoy an endless supply of caprese salads (Editor’s note: neither heirloom tomatoes nor caprese salads are included in your stay), you’ll need to embrace the concept of an off-the-grid vacation. Although this stay has modern electrical and plumbing, it does not offer wifi or general cell service (unless you have Verizon and are interested in hiding in the kitchen to scroll through your vacation).

Staying in this house is like traveling back in time to the early 1990s. You can view this shelf to the left of the TV as your own personal blockbuster, or choose to spend your evening in a jam session in the dining room. music before going out with a blanket and a cocktail for a bit of stargazing.

“Unique” is the only word that truly describes Bedrock Homestead Cave, but it’s also the perfect word for the cave’s backyard. Here you have full access to the magnificent views and state parks of southern Utah. Or, as your vacation home likes to call it, from all their rock parents.

Fancy a dip? After a day of hiking, which you can hike to the roof of your house, on trails accessible by foot from your front door or through the wilderness a short drive away, you’ll be set. to dive into nature. pool available to all cave guests.

It may look like a beautifully cultivated farm, but don’t let its beauty fool you – you’ll need a 4×4 to access your holiday accommodation. You know that song that goes “through the woods, across a river, and down a long dirt road”? You may not be visiting Grandma, but getting here is like a very gentle game of Oregon Trail, without all the dysentery and wagons crashing in the fast-flowing waters.

Although there is a fireplace in your cave, you won’t have to chop your own wood for warmth. The cave house gets all its energy from very green hydroelectricity, which means that there is both hot running water and an air conditioning system inside. #paradise

We have it on good authority (by more than one reviewer per first name, of course – that’s serious journalism we’re doing here!) that you can see the beautiful starry sky from the comfort of your own bedroom. . But when the sun is out, you can watch someone else’s garden grow and relax knowing you’ll be spared any weeding or hoeing.

This house is constantly referred to as “cool” and “comfortable”. But another word going around is “robust.” We’re not talking about tent camping in the middle of rugged wilderness, but here you’ll be comfortable with the wide open spaces of horses and gardens and non-existent wifi. Plus, one of the most divisive four-legged creatures: the domestic cat. Because kittens are allowed to roam freely indoors and outdoors, this is not a vacation stay for anyone with allergies, watery eyes, or sensitive noses.

It doesn’t matter if you have to skip a bit of scrolling Instagram or TikTok when you can wake up and fall asleep every day with this view. Just take those videos, snap those selfies, and save them to post later – we would never want to deprive you of basking in the glow of your followers’ envy.

The past two years have been traumatic as a whole, but on a day-to-day basis they have also been deeply boring. Who wants to be stuck indoors with just a restricted quarantine pod all the time? Returning to the time of the Flintstones may not seem like the perfect antidote to Covid-era hangovers, but we think it might be given all the reviews that talk about the opportunities for exploration and adventure here. It’s time for you to indulge in another unprecedented vacation getaway.
