Oregon22 World Athletics Championships: Here’s how to book a hotel room, vacation home, or RV

If you do not yet have accommodation during Oregon22 World Athletics Championships From July 15-24 in Eugene, don’t give up until you cross the finish line, say area travel experts. Reserved for a long time hotels there will most likely be last minute cancellations, more residents are seeing value in renting an underused part of their home, and there are places to park an RV.

Don’t fall for a rental scam.

“Beware of anything that seems too good to be true,” said Andy Vobora of Traveling in Lane County tourist office, which has a up-to-date booking tool at eugenecascadescoast.org for visitors to seek accommodation.

The website directs tourists to hotels, motels, lodges, cabins, retreats, guest rooms hostels and hostels to see rates and availability in real time.

The booking tool also includes professionally managed homes available from Based in Portland Vacasa as well as peer-hosted homes listed on Airbnb and Vrbo.

  • How to get tickets for the World Championships in Athletics

Unlike posts on Craigslist and Facebook, these established short-term rental platforms handle booking, collect required taxes and offer insurance, Vobora said. Free Airbnb AirCover protects against host cancellations and listing inaccuracies.

Natalia Sutin, vice president of revenue management at Vacasa, said that “while Craigslist can be great for buying a used item, it tends to be a popular place for scammers to list homes.”

Athletes competing in Hayward Field at the University of Oregon will stay in campus accommodations, but that still leaves about 50,000 visitors in and out of town during the championships, and many will need a place to stay, Vobora said.

The 4,400 hotel rooms of the Eugene Springfield metropolitan area were booked last year or even before. And Vobora estimates that around 1,100 vacation rentals are offered during championship events.

Airbnb has hired super hosts in the Eugene area to help new owners prepare space for rent during the 10-Day Championships. Residents heard from the tourist office that it would be a good time to meet people from all over the world.

Tickets were sold in all 50 U.S. states and more than 34 other countries, Vobora said.

Travel Lane County staff and the city staged their own marathon.

The Athletics World Championships is a big deal, Vobora said, even for Eugene, known as TrackTown United States.

It is the first time the biennial athletics competition, postponed for a year due to the coronavirus pandemic, has been held in the United States.

Visitors book berths north of Portland, south of RoseburgWest of Florence and east towards Bend, Vobora said.

One hour or more travel time from hotels far from Salem are equivalent to what track fans have endured at previous athletics world championships to reach a stadium in traffic-laden metros like London, Doha in Qatar and Beijing, he added.

Shuttle and other long distance and long distance services means of transport are listed at eugenecascadescoast.org.

Vacasa, who offers a premium cleaning program and keyless smart locks, offers these tips for finding suitable accommodation for a large event:

  • If your travel dates can be flexible, adjust dates and expand your destination area to expand your accommodation options, Sutin said.
  • If you don’t see what you need, keep checking as new listings are added.
  • Use the search filters to find a vacation rental that suits you. Enter the number of bedrooms and bathrooms desired, necessary accessibility Features and other specifics. Instead of a bedroom for the kids, a sofa bed could work and increase your options.
