Peru is lifting all Covid-related travel restrictions and this sustainable Lima hotel is ready to welcome you

Known for some of the strictest Covid protections in the world, travel to Peru returns to normal from November 1, 2022. Now is the perfect time to travel to the country known for its Inca ruins, phenomenal cuisine and the only capital in South America with an ocean view. Environment Iberostar Selection Miraflores is the ideal hotel in Lima, where you can taste Peruvian specialties outdoors and admire the Pacific before and after exploring the rest of Peru.

Peru ends state of emergency

In place since March 2020, Peru the state of emergency is over and all travel restrictions and occupancy limits are repealed.

Peru’s Covid protection rules evolved during the waves of Covid and as its population was vaccinated and strengthened. The country’s air borders reopened in October 2020 and its land borders reopened in February 2022. The end of the state of emergency means travelers no longer need to complete the Immigration and Health Declaration to board on flights, to present proof of vaccination or certification of a negative Covid test to enter the country or its interior spaces, and that masks are no longer mandatory. Previously, proof of vaccination (including boosters) was required to enter many indoor spaces, as were KN95 type respirators or double face masks (given the ongoing pandemic and the risks of Long Covid, they are always encouraged).

It’s time to visit Peru

Christmas time – along with July and August – is Peru’s high season, and November marks the start of summer in the Southern Hemisphere (although the weather in the capital, Lima, is almost always spring-like). While Peru’s main draw is the ancient Inca citadel of Machu Picchu and its neighboring high-altitude city of Cusco, travelers should be sure to plan at least a few days in Lima.

Eco-hotel in the most popular tourist area of Lima

Eco-conscious travelers will want to stay at Iberostar Selection Mirafloresa five-star hotel that sets the environmental bar for Lima and the country as a whole.

Chic Miraflores is Lima’s most popular neighborhood for travelers, given its ease of walking around, abundance of restaurants and shops, and highlights like the pre-Inca pyramid, Huaca Pucllanaas well as food markets, several green parks, and accessibility to the ocean.

The 18-story Iberostar Selection Miraflores is just two blocks from Lima’s Malecón promenade above the Pacific, near Parque del Amor with its mosaics, kissing sculpture and views of paragliders in the sky above and surfers in the waves below.

Environmental Iberostar Selection Miraflores

Thanks to its Wave of Change movement, Iberostar has eliminated single-use plastics and Iberostar is on track to become zero waste by 2025 and carbon neutral by 2030. The company aims to have 100% of its seafood products responsibly sourced by 2025, with Iberostar Selection Miraflores having already achieved the goal.

Iberostar Selection Miraflores is also completely free of single-use plastic, a particularly difficult feat in Lima given the lack of potable tap water in the city. Each floor of this modern hotel has a filtered water station, so there’s no need to use plastic (check the count at the station on your floor to see how many plastic bottles have been saved up now). In bright bathrooms, showers feature large refillable containers of biodegradable Botanicus shampoo, conditioner, and body wash, further reducing single-use plastics. Even the coffee pods from Iberostar Selection Miraflores are eco-friendly – the pods are compostable and shipped carbon neutral from Germany and they’re filled with Peruvian coffee to support local producers.

Peru does not yet have a strong recycling culture – the country reuses less than 5% if its waste and an estimated 70% is reusable – but Iberostar Selection Miraflores has a robust recycling program in conjunction with the socio- environmental, Sinba. And, through the Peruvian Hotel Society (SHP), Iberostar encourages other member hotels to follow its example.

Will stay Iberostar Selection Miraflores

Not only will you feel good about its environmental practices, but a stay at the Iberostar Selection Miraflores is the perfect introduction to Peru as well as a relaxing stopover after exploring the country’s highlands and Amazon rainforest.

Through the floor-to-ceiling windows of this 214-room hotel (and from the rooftop patio and pool), there is a view of the ocean and the Malecón, as well as the park with tennis court and outdoor pool just in front the front door of the hotel, and the rest of the center of Miraflores.

Although Peru’s Covid rules have been lifted, it is still wise to minimize the risk of exposure to the virus. It’s easy at Iberostar Selection Miraflores restaurants on site — Taperia 27 Tapas on the roof is outdoors with Lima’s fresh ocean air blowing in from the Pacific and the ground floor Ortega & Huaman and lobby bar have outdoor patios.

Chef Carlos Testino runs the restaurants at the Iberostar Selection Miraflores. Tapas and cocktails are the specialty upstairs at Taperia 27 Tapas, a popular spot with Limeños who love the ambiance and sunsets. Downstairs, the lobby bar offers coffees, pastries, and takeaways like sandwiches. Ortega & Huaman serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with Peruvian specialties like ceviche made from sustainable fish and lomo saltado.

Relax your stretched muscles with a trek to Machu Picchu at the Iberostar Selection Miraflores spa, complete with sauna, and in your room with its provided yoga mat. There is also a 24-hour gym. The green decor of the Iberostar Selection Miraflores is inspired by the Peruvian nature reserve of Pacaya Samiria and will make you want to see the Amazon as well. Ideally, your trip to Peru includes the rainforest as well as the Andean highlands and the Pacific coast of Lima.
