Planet Budapest 2021 encourages action for sustainable development

12,000 trees will be planted in the name of Planet Budapest 2021

Joint event of Visegrád countries aims to encourage action for sustainable development

Planet Budapest 2021 Sustainability Expo and Summit kicked off at the Hungexpo Exhibition and Convention Center, with general public programs starting today, November 30, MTI reports. There are no entrance fees.

Concrete solutions for a sustainable lifestyle

The joint event of the Visegrád countries aims to raise awareness, especially among young people, of harmful environmental, social and economic practices that jeopardize the future of humanity, to show that these negative interventions are reversible and to encourage the action in favor of sustainable development.

From November 29 to December 5, professional exhibitors from Hungary, Czech, Poland and Slovakia will promote sustainable development through their technological developments, innovative products and services. The exhibition will also offer spectacular, entertaining and informative activities for the general public, highlighting the interdependence of nature and the human way of life, and suggesting tangible solutions for sustainable routines.

Offset CO2 emissions with 12,000 trees

The free event venue is accessible by modern electric buses from several parts of the capital. Under the sign of sustainability, each exhibition stand is made of recycled materials, and the waste generated on site will be collected by electric garbage trucks. Throughout the duration of the event, the organizers will refrain from using plastic bottles.

Notably, the carbon dioxide emissions caused by the event will later be offset by the planting of at least 12,000 trees. Tree planting will be done in transport hubs to further reduce the negative effects of climate change by filtering dust and other pollutants from the air and sequestering carbon dioxide. In the first phase of the program in November, nearly 700 seedlings will be planted along the M0, M3 and M7 motorways.

Selective waste collection, eco-labeled accommodation

During Planet Budapest 2021, selective waste collection will be fully ensured. The organizers of the event will supervise the entire route of the waste generated and will constantly draw the attention of visitors to the use of selective waste collectors via a mobile application. Thanks to this, the recycling rate of the waste generated should reach 80%.

Sustainability is also promoted through the publication of green classified accommodation for foreign customers. The event website offers a list of accommodations where special attention is paid to reducing water consumption, improving energy efficiency and reducing food waste.

food tasting is also part of the one-day interactive family experience program. Visitors can sample responsibly prepared foods from sustainable farms that are delicious, healthy, and light on the carbon footprint.
