Police Warn Kosciusko County Drivers of Recent Car Thefts

WARSAW, Ind. (WANE) – The Warsaw Police Department has issued advice to drivers to reduce the risk of theft after a series of recent incidents in Kosciusko County sparked an investigation.

Police said the initial investigation revealed that several suspects stole cars – and took the cars themselves – across the county, and specifically in Warsaw.

The recent “crime spree”, as Warsaw police called it, took place between late evening and early morning, mainly affecting areas west of downtown Warsaw and areas along Parker Street.

Police determined the suspects were targeting residential areas, including apartment complexes. Police say a vehicle was stolen from Kuder Estates and several vehicles were ransacked in the parking lot of the apartment.

As part of the investigation, the Warsaw police remind residents of some ways to most effectively prevent car theft:

  • Don’t forget to lock the doors of your homes and vehicles. While it won’t stop all thefts, it is still a deterrent on many occasions where crime may occur, police noted.
  • Be aware of your surroundings. If you see vehicles or foot traffic in your neighborhood that seems unusual, please contact the police so they can be investigated.
  • Check your security cameras if you have them, looking specifically for activity from Sunday evening to Monday morning. Any video can be beneficial as police continue to investigate these crimes. Even if your residence was not involved, your camera may have picked up something. Please contact Warsaw Police at (574) 372-9515 so they can get a copy of the surveillance.
