Porter Airlines challenges North American aviation with a new flight experience that elevates economy class travel

Free Wi-Fi, fresh meals, improved legroom and a new all-inclusive economy experience among the features added to the existing onboard signature service

TORONTO, December 6, 2022 /CNW/ – Porter Airlines is unveiling an exceptional new economy class air travel experience that challenges what all North American airlines offer. Building on its distinctive and longstanding regional service, Porter will elevate cost-effective flying for everyone in its expanding network.

Coinciding with the airline’s growth strategy in markets across North America using the new Embraer E195-E2 aircraft, along with its existing De Havilland Dash 8-400 fleet, travelers will experience a new level of generosity and attentive service that is non-existent in economy air travel today.

Hospitality and comfort
Porter’s existing signature in-flight service, including complimentary beer and wine served in glasses, as well as a selection of premium snacks, will continue as part of the trip. The introduction of the E195-E2 also offers all passengers free and fast Wi-Fi, with full access to web browsing or streaming from their favorite entertainment platforms. On longer flights, the option of fresh meals prepared with real food and healthy ingredients is also available.

Porter’s current two-by-two cabin seats are also coming to long-haul jet travel. This ensures that each passenger enjoys more personal space, thanks to the fact that it is the only airline not to have a middle seat on every flight.

“Porter is investing significantly to make economy air travel enjoyable for every passenger in a way that no one else is,” said Michael DelucePresident and CEO, Porter Airlines. “Other airlines have focused on removing convenience and comfort for decades, but we believe people should actually enjoy flying as economy passengers. It’s possible, as we know from having already redefined regional travel more than 16 years ago. Now we’re ready to do that for a broader North American market in a way that no traditional or low-cost carrier is ready to do. That’s an enhanced experience that builds on our reputation for providing a high level of service to every passenger at reasonable prices in a single class of service.”

Porter’s new E195-E2 aircraft will have an all-economy 132-seat configuration, offering a number of legroom options. This complements its current fleet of 78-seat Dash 8-400 aircraft which will now offer passengers two legroom options.

CarryReserve
Porter introduces a new all-inclusive budget experience called PorterReserve, unlike anything offered today in North America. When passengers purchase a PorterReserve fare, they get all the benefits Economy Class travelers could want for a reasonable price that’s significantly lower than Business Class. The rate includes dedicated airport check-in, early boarding, enhanced legroom, fresh meals on longer flights, Porter’s signature beer, premium wine and snacks, cocktails, two checked baggage and the possibility of changing flights free of charge.

PorterReserve will be available on all Porter flights. When flying the E195-E2, this includes the first four rows of the cabin (16 seats) and offers 36-inch seat pitch, which is similar to business class legroom on other airlines. other narrow-body aircraft. On Porter’s Dash 8-400 fleet, PorterReserve will be in the first two rows (six seats) with 32-inch seat pitch.

WearClassic
Porter’s traditional economy experience is now called PorterClassic. This is the classic Porter service that includes complimentary beer and wine in glasses, plus a selection of premium snacks. On flights longer than 2.5 hours, passengers can also purchase the same high-quality individual appetizers and fresh cocktails available at PorterReserve. It is also possible to select additional benefits, such as extra legroom, extra luggage and travel flexibility.

Passengers traveling on a PorterClassic fare will have 30 inches of seat spacing on each Porter aircraft. On the E195-E2, they can also purchase one of 20 PorterStretch seats, offering a minimum of 34 inches of seat spacing.

The PorterReserve and PorterClassic experiences, one all-inclusive and the other a la carte, address what is well known about budget travel today – that airlines make many travelers feel undervalued, disrespected and stressed by the flight. Porter has conducted extensive market research on Canada to fully understand what Economy Class passengers want and has created an experience for them that transforms expectations.

“Other airlines reserve their best service for a small number of passengers who can afford high premium fares or who have special status, and the quality on board is often even lower,” said Kevin Jackson, executive vice president and chief commercial officer of Porter Airlines. “The vast majority of people travel economy class and must tolerate an eroded experience with few or no amenities or services. Porter’s approach disrupts this model by showing that it is possible to meet the needs of economy class travelers. and to make them feel valued by offering them a generous and quality experience at competitive prices. We will do it unlike any other North American airline, with style, care and charm.

New rates
Porter will soon expand its pricing options to support its broader product offering. Its four existing fare options will be aligned with PorterClassic and two new fares are being introduced with the PorterReserve experience. Fare details will be available at the same time as the first E195-E2 routes are announced.

New destinations
Porter is the North American launch customer for Embraer’s E195-E2, offering the ability to operate throughout North Americaincluding on the west coast, southern United States, Mexico and the Caribbean. The aircraft will initially be deployed from Toronto Pearson International Airport, with Halifax, Montreal and Ottawa also see new service with the E195-E2 over time. The first of 100 new devices is expected to ship to Porter this year, and initial routes will be announced in December.

Porter’s current regional fleet of Dash 8-400s will continue to serve more than 20 destinations, with a main base at Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport.

Combined with its existing De Havilland Dash 8-400s, Porter will have one of the most environmentally friendly aircraft fleets in the world.
