Immerse yourself in all things susegad with Rediscover Goa, a week-long celebration by Airbnb in conjunction with the Goa Tourism Department. By Bayar Jain
Airbnb, in collaboration with the Goa Tourism Department, launched Rediscover Goa today. Starting December 12, this week-long celebration will highlight the cultural diversity of the sunshine state beyond its beaches and sparkling nightlife. For this, Airbnb has embarked Culture—a creative and cultural enterprise that seeks to promote India’s pluralistic cultural heritage through content, products and experiences — as a knowledge partner to curate the quintessential susegad experiences.
Scheduled to run from December 12-18, Rediscover Goa will feature over 20 unique Airbnb experiences specially curated by local experts. These curations will showcase the state’s eclectic culture, rich heritage, musical traditions, culinary delights and thriving landscapes in the northern and southern districts of the state.
But why Goa? Amanpreet Bajaj, Managing Director, Airbnb India, Southeast Asia, Hong Kong and Taiwan, reveals, “Goa is a highly sought-after tourist destination and one of the top destinations for us at Airbnb. As close partners to the communities of Goa, we are making conscious efforts to stimulate unique and immersive experiences in the state. »
Rohan Khaunte, Minister of Tourism, Government of Goa, agrees: “Goa is a treasure trove of hidden gems and we have undertaken several initiatives for travelers from all over the world to explore the hinterland of the state. This partnership with Airbnb will support our efforts in backcountry tourism and homestay tourism.
Inclusions and experiences
As part of Rediscover Goa, customers can savor the flavors of Goa’s unique culinary delights through a five-course meal with Chef Anumitra from the Edible Archives; spend an evening enjoying Fado (music genre from Portugal) and Mandó (music genre from Goa) with Sonia Shirsat in Madragao; immerse yourself in the Indo-Portuguese culture that has been nurtured for centuries; undertake an electric bike ride by the river; kayaking in the backwaters of Sal; or even head for a Cliff to Coast Trail.
With these experiences, one can not only explore and engage with the culture of Goa, but also access existing pockets of lesser-known sights that make the state unique. In doing so, Airbnb aims to foster community tourism. Bajaj adds, “People are becoming more thoughtful and deliberate about how they travel and prefer to make a positive contribution to local communities. Through Rediscover Goa, we aim to enable such experiences and help travelers discover cultural aspects that truly reflect Goa. We are committed to working closely with local government to support micro-entrepreneurship and help travelers rediscover Goa in its true essence.
Apart from boosting tourism in the state, Khaunte sees it as a timely method of boosting women’s financial independence as well. The Minister adds, “Such initiatives will bring financial independence to women who are key stakeholders in the hospitality business and bring benefits to remote communities. We look forward to working together to promote homestay and backcountry tourism in the state.
Some other Airbnb experiences offered as part of Rediscover Goa are a brewery tour and tasting with Goa Brewing Company; walk around the mansions of Goa; watch a sunset and a starry sky; watching Guardian Spirits of Goa, an interactive film; enroll in Clay with Us, a wheel-throwing pottery class; savor Chef Avinash Martins’ artisanal farm-to-table experience; and even a sketchwalk that introduces guests to Goa-inspired artwork by Mario Miranda.
