Road Trip to Ohio’s Most Photographed Places

It’s no secret that Ohio is beautiful. And yet, it’s too easy to take the landmarks and destinations that our state is famous for for granted. Luckily, we’ve put together a road trip itinerary that will take you to the most photographed places in Ohio. Through the lens of your camera (or your phone), you will be able to renew your appreciation of the state’s most precious monuments. Or leave the camera at home and just soak up the view while you create treasured memories with friends and family. Without further ado, we present to you the photographer’s road trip through Ohio.

Know before you go: The driving route alone will take 10 hours, so be sure to schedule a few overnight stops along the way. We have suggested three below.

Lighthouse Drive, Lighthouse Dr, Lakeside Marblehead, OH 43440, United States

You’ll find Ohio’s most photographed lighthouse just 80 miles outside of Cleveland. A great start to our photographer’s journey through Ohio, the Marblehead Lighthouse is beautiful all year round. Built in 1821, it also holds the title of oldest continuously operated lighthouse in the whole country.

Edgewater Beach, Cleveland, OH 44102, United States

Next on the list is Edgewater Park, one of the area’s most breathtaking parks. With 9,000 feet of shoreline giving way to breathtaking views of the city, this location is ideal for taking photos. After capturing the views, be sure to stretch your legs or engage in some other activity such as kayaking, fishing, or dog walking. This is where you will also find a famous “Cleveland” sign.

Blue Hen Falls, Brecksville, OH 44141, USA

No Ohio Scenic Drive trip is complete without some time spent in Cuyahoga Valley National Park. One of the park’s crown jewels is Blue Hen Falls, an exquisite waterfall that is stunning in all seasons. Getting to the waterfall requires a short 0.5 mile hike that is as scenic as the destination itself. If the parking lot at Blue Hen Falls is full, you might consider the Boston Store Visitor Center (this will add 1 mile to your hike).

History Lanterman Mill dates back to 1845. It is one of Mahoning County’s top attractions, both for its history and exquisite beauty. Visit the mill and you will feel like you are in the past. You can even buy flour or porridge as a souvenir of your visit.

Mohican State Park, 3116 OH-3, Loudonville, OH 44842, USA

There is so much to explore at Mohican State Park; you’ll want to take your time to enjoy all that this beautiful destination has to offer. This park is home to a covered bridge, a beautiful river, and one of the deepest gorges in Ohio. For some of the most breathtaking scenery in the park, we recommend hiking the Hemlock Gorge trail. This 3 mile hike will take you over the covered bridge and through dense forests, offering photo ops at every turn.

Conservatory Drive, Conservatory Dr, Columbus, OH 43205, USA

Welcome Columbus! The conservatory and gardens of Franklin Park is one of the city’s most beloved destinations, and it’s no mystery why. The Conservatory organizes educational programs and events throughout the year, and their exhibits are simply fascinating. Admission to the Conservatory and the Gardens is chargeable.

German Village, Columbus, OH, USA

Photo opportunities abound in German Village, a quaint historic district just south of Columbus. The area was settled by German immigrants in the early 1800s, and much of the original charm has been retained in the unique storefronts and architecture. It’s a great place to search for a new book, enjoy a cup of coffee, or venture out on a romantic date.

Put on these hiking boots, as we’re about to venture into Hocking Hills State Park. You might want to start early, as Ash Cave is without a doubt one of the most popular destinations in the park. The huge cave is 700 feet from end to end and the view from almost every angle is breathtaking. The cave is a short walk from the parking lot, so you can spend more time taking the perfect photo.

Eden Park, Clay Township, OH 45662, USA

Last, but not least, is Eden Park. One of Cincinnati’s most spectacular outdoor spaces, the park offers magnificent views of the Ohio River. You could easily spend the whole day exploring all that this park has to offer: the views, the history, the recreational opportunities, and more. Although it is a beautiful destination, Eden Park is still considered a hidden gem. With plenty of room to roam, you’ll have the perfect opportunity to reflect on your whirlwind of a road trip.
