Ruth Bartow, wife of UAB Athletics founding father Gene Bartow, dies at 91
The UAB Athletic Department has announced the passing of Ruth Bartow, wife of UAB Athletics founding father Gene Bartow. Bartow died Sunday at the age of 91. We will continue to honor the Bartow family and carry on the Ruth and Gene name for generations to come. Ruth Bartow’s funeral will be held Saturday, January 7 at Vestavia Hills United Methodist Church at 11 a.m.

Bartow died Sunday at the age of 91.
UAB Athletic Director Mark Ingram said, “Ruth loved Blazer Athletics as much as anyone and she will be greatly missed by the entire UAB community. We will continue to honor the Bartow family and carry on the Ruth and Gene name for generations to come.
Ruth Bartow’s funeral will be held on Saturday, January 7 at Vestavia Hills United Methodist Church at 11 a.m.
