Scottish Airbnb owner horrified as over 30 guests show up to seven people and damage home – The Scottish Sun

A SCOTS Airbnb owner was horrified after more than 30 guests showed up with tents for a seven-person booking and damaged her home.

Sheri Murphy, 55, has slammed the dozens of thoughtless visitors who flocked to the Highland beauty spot Glen Etive – cops were forced to evict them last night after initially refusing to leave.

Property developer Sheri claims the selfish guests smashed a bed and a bench – and also tore down mirrors from the walls inside the property.

Sheri alleges the group lied about the number of people staying at Airbnb and dumped their tents and several personal belongings for the owners to clean after being evicted by police.

She told how her heart “sinked” when she arrived at the holiday home to see 12 motors lined up outside, with cops telling her they had 34 people in total.

And she added she was “shocked” to find ten tents in the property’s garden – with visitors sent to pack their bags just a day after arriving.

Sheri told the Scottish Sun: “It has been overwhelming for us. We managed to stop what could have been a lot more damage to our house.

“We got a call that there were ten cars in the driveway. We live about an hour from the property. Our hearts just sank when we arrived.

“We decided to enter through the side door, because we didn’t want them to run and hide. It was then that we saw the tents. I certainly didn’t expect that. They hadn’t even been on the property 24 hours.

“The gentleman who booked it said he had mentioned it to one or two people, a few others mentioned it to other people, and it had ‘spinned out of control’. Those were his words. .

“They tried to offer me money to stay, but I said no. They asked if the seven who had signed up could stay, but I said no anyway. The police told them they had to get out.

“They threw all the tents in a big pile and left them. We were left to eliminate them all. They left clothes like shoes and scarves.

“They had taken the mirrors off the walls and taken them down. They broke a bed.

“They put some of my indoor furniture outside. There’s a broken bench, but it can be fixed.”

“My husband and his friend spent about five hours cleaning the grounds today.”

Sheri shared how she was also concerned about the huge size of the visiting group due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

She said: “The guests were from around Manchester and London so I’m a bit more wary.

“The reason I want to air it is so it doesn’t happen to anyone else. It was a total disrespect to our house.

“We had a lot of problems in the Highlands with wild camping and people disrespecting the area. Glen Etive was one of the places that was hit. Seeing this rekindled everything.

A police spokesman said: ‘We have received a report of a large group of people refusing to vacate property in Glen Etive.

“Officers were present, spoke to those involved and the group was dispersed.”

An Airbnb spokesperson said: “Unauthorized events are prohibited on Airbnb and we have zero tolerance for violations. We have removed this guest from the platform and are supporting the host.”
