Smiths Detection’s HI-SCAN 6040 CTiX x-ray scanner has been added to the Transportation Security Administration’s (TSA) Checkpoint Properties System (CPSS) Medium Qualified Product (QPL) list.
The TSA’s CPSS program is designed to replace the previous generation of X-ray scanners at US airports with the latest in computed tomography (CT) scanning technology.
The HI-SCAN 6040 CTiX is a computed tomography (CT) X-ray scanner producing high-resolution volumetric 3D images for faster baggage assessment, using both operator visual inspection and automated baggage recognition. objects, resulting in low false alarm rates.
The scanner allows electronics and liquids to remain in the bags, speeding passenger throughput, improving security and reducing touchpoints.

CT technology equips airports with powerful screening technology that enhances security, increases throughput and improves the passenger experience.
In 2019, Smiths Detection was awarded a contract to supply 300 Advanced Technology/Computed Tomography (AT/CT) checkpoint systems to US airports under the TSA’s AT/CT program.
Per the TSA contract, Smiths Detection manufactured 300 AT/CT systems in Edgewood, MD and installed them across the United States throughout the COVID19 pandemic.
