Stay at this lighthouse keeper’s cottage on one of the UK’s most remote islands

Sometimes a city break just isn’t enough. Instead, what you really need is to escape, ideally somewhere really, really remote. If that’s your mindset right now, here’s a place you could be: a beautiful lighthouse on one of the Scotlandthe most isolated islands of , available now on Airbnb.

The lighthouse keeper’s house on Davaar Island in Argyll and Bute is only accessible at low tide by 4×4 or on foot (it’s about as cut off from the world as that, in other words). On clear nights, you can watch the sun set over the coast from the private garden which has a fire pit – perfect for warming up in this windy part of the world (and roasting marshmallows, if you fancy it).

So while the lighthouse itself isn’t open to guests, the cottage is right at the foot of the building, so you can live like a real lighthouse keeper for the weekend. Our advice? Don’t Watch 2019 Movie Disappearance before leaving, however (it’s based on a true story about the mysterious disappearance of three lighthouse keepers). Or Lighthousewhich is a whole different kind of creepy.

ICYMI: this Scottish castle with its own keep (yes, really) is for sale.

More: the tallest Christmas tree in the UK will light up this botanic garden this winter.
