Steel City Smooth Jazz Fest returns to Birmingham after 5 years

BIRMINGHAM, Ala (WIAT) — After a five-year hiatus, two of which were due to the pandemic, the Steel City Smooth Jazz Festival is back.

Many fans who wanted to see the festival return remember Maze with Frankie Beverly, saxophonist Boney James and the legendary O’Jays. They are once again entitled to the same smooth jazz and R&B.

Headlining the 2022 festival are Grammy Award-winning Isley Brothers, Grammy Award-winning Kirk Whalum, saxophonist Boney James, R&B sensation Musiq Soulchild and Jonathan Butler. They are all part of a two-day festival featuring 22 artists.

The Steel City Smooth Jazz Festival has teamed up with the City of Birmingham to bring the festival back to historic Linn Park on June 17-18. Organizer Cedric Allen is thrilled to bring Steel City back.

“We are working to make the return of Steel City Smooth Jazz Festival an unparalleled live music experience unlike any other music festival anywhere in the country,” Allen said. “Working with our in-kind sponsor, The World Games 2022, festival-goers can expect global surprises.”

The outdoor family atmosphere typically attracts over 20,000 music lovers from across the country, including international jazz enthusiasts. The Greater Birmingham Convention and Visitors Bureau ranks the Steel City Jazz Festival among the top 15 conventions and events held in the state of Alabama.
