THEY ARE passionate about pies.

One of Southampton’s hidden gems, Piecaramba! serves spectacular British food with a twist.

This perfectly formed little restaurant near Bedford Place is a welcoming hub for anyone who loves their hot pies and different decor.

Carlton Place’s quirky restaurant features a comic book-inspired interior and lets you play video or board games while you wait for your food.

Batman and ET feature prominently, not to mention a scuba diving fire extinguisher among the memorabilia around the restaurant. Even in the toilets there is a Darth Vader hand dryer to keep you entertained.

The menu is definitely out of left field. Favorite flavors include Mac to the Future Stuffed Mac and Cheese, Hen Party Chicken, Ham and Leek, and Holy Cow Steak Pie.

The Piefull Tower is a stack of two pies with peas or chili mint baked beans and your choice of mash topped with cheese and shallots, and sauce or tart liqueur while finishing. The Piescaper will get you on the wall of fame.

Christmas in July has been celebrated since Covid, but the real festive menu has just launched and includes Pie Hard and The Grinch, featuring Brussels sprouts.

Alcoholic slushes include A Fisherman’s Son and Berry Superstitious.

Piecaramba! belongs to Rob Litchfield and Phil Linssen, who met while working for a cosmetics company and shared a passion for pies.

The Winchester branch, which opened in 2016, was described as “good bloody pie” by food critic Jay Rayner in his Observer column.

Southampton followed a year later and has gone from strength to strength since pedestrianizing the road outside with an additional room for al fresco dining.

This has been a huge help during the different phases of Covid, as has click-and-collect, dine-in and various delivery options. Today, the cost of living poses new challenges.

Phil Linssen told the Daily Echo: “We have a great product served in a fun setting. environment

“The economic climate is having an impact right now and is definitely causing us to think differently. But we are still trying to think outside the box on everything.

“We think we have a good price. You could easily pay £15 for a burger and chips, so paying around £11 for a good sized meal is an affordable option. You certainly won’t leave hungry!”
