Three-day “meaningful life experience” brings best-selling authors to Vail and Denver Sept. 27-29
The Vail Alliance for Purposeful Living, the Vail Symposium, and the Knoebel Institute for Healthy Aging at the University of Denver are co-hosting a three-day “Focused Living Experience” featuring best-selling authors Richard Leider and Chip Conley. This includes two days of programming in Vail and one day in Denver; all sessions focus on various aspects of useful life.
“We are honored to welcome Richard and Chip to the Vail community and look forward to hearing their thoughts and advice on purposeful living,” said Kris Sabel, Vail Symposium Executive Director. “I think we all strive to live with purpose, no matter what our age.”
Day one: September 27, 6-7:30 p.m. at Battle Mountain High School in Edwards:Unleash your purpose at any age” with Richard Leider and Chip Conley. Registration is $25; teachers are free. In this program, Richard Leider and Chip Conley will discuss the power of purpose, including stories and useful life examples. The duo will also discuss how to unlock your lens at any age and answer questions from the audience. The conversation will also include:
- The importance of knowing why you get up in the morning
- The path to a useful life, including gifts, passions and values
- Reasoned aging
- Millennials on the rise, thriving in their 40s and the problem of ageism
- Mentorship, connections and contributions
Day two: September 28, 9-11:30 a.m. workshop at Colorado Mountain College in Edwards: “Questions you should ask yourself to live purposefully” with Richard Leider and Chip Conley. Registration is $40. This interactive workshop includes brief remarks by Leider and Conley and several hands-on learning activities. The workshop is meaningful, substantial, energizing and fun while providing participants with opportunities to connect with each other in creative and engaging ways. It uses reflection, dialogue and active learning, drawing out key principles and relevant stories and examples. This workshop will include:
- Clarify your purpose and your next life chapter
- The need to keep learning, growing and giving
- Limiting beliefs that can keep you from living your best life
- Live more in the moment
- Think about your contributions and your legacy
Day three: Sept. 29, 10-11:30 a.m. in Denver at the University of Denver’s Knoebel Institute for Healthy Aging: “The Path to Deliberate Agingwith Richard Leider. Registration is free. Topics Covered:

- End of life crisis
- Become whole as we age
- How to make sure our music is playing on
- Rethinking aging and retirement

Conley is the founder of Modern Elder Academy, where a new quarantine roadmap is offered on a beautiful beachfront campus in Baja California Sur, Mexico (and soon Santa Fe, NM). He serves on the board of Encore.org and the advisory board of the Stanford Center for Longevity.
