Vacation rentals debate – CBS Miami
TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami / NSF) – Florida lawmakers are ready to jump back into the debate over regulating vacation rental properties.
The Senate Regulated Industries Committee is expected to consider a bill (SB 512) on Tuesday, introduced by Sen. Danny Burgess, R-Zephyrhills, which is the latest version of a long battle over issues such as the degree of authority of cities and counties should have to regulate vacation rentals.

Rep. Jason Fischer, R-Jacksonville, introduced an identical bill in the House.
The bills say, in part, that regulating online vacation rental platforms “comes first to the state,” which would deprive local authorities of regulating platforms such as Airbnb.

The bills would allow local governments to require registration of vacation rental properties.
Cities and counties have fought the latest vacation rental bills, arguing that local governments should have regulatory power.
