KANSAS CITY, Mo. – A viral video on TikTok is getting a lot of attention after a cybersecurity expert showed how easy it is for Airbnb hosts to hide surveillance cameras on their property.
Experts in finding hidden devices say there are some easy ways to find the devices.
They say you can easily search for any recording device by projecting a light into the lens of a hidden camera.
Camera lenses will reflect a blue or red color when struck by light.
Typical areas where you should look for hidden cameras include devices like an alarm clock, smoke detector, or shower head.
Another suggestion from the experts is to download the free smartphone app, “fing”.
“The Fing app will allow you when you enter a space, if you have the Wi-Fi password, it will connect to that network and it will actually give you a list of all the devices currently listed on that network,” Thomas Ham, told Spy Catchers LLC. “He does his best to give you an idea of what each device is. Whether it’s a cell phone, an IP camera, things of that nature.
Airbnb has rules in place to protect its guests from any hidden check-in devices.
