Warm-up stations open during the bitter winter cold spell

Warming stations will be open at various locations to provide shelter from the extreme cold in Alabama this week. The City of Birmingham says a warm shelter will be open to the public Dec. 22 through Dec. 25 at the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex. The warm-up station will open at 7 p.m. at BJCC’s South Exhibition Hall, located at 1962 9th Ave. North.Food will be provided.-In Anniston, a warming station is open at the deck of Anniston First United Methodist Church until December 26th. This warming station is located at 1400 Noble Street, Anniston.-In Coosa County, the Goodwater Community Center will be open as a warming station from December 22 at 8 p.m. until December 24 at 10 a.m. The community center is located on Highway 9 at the Community Park. Baby cots and bottled water will be available. – In Adamsville, the Adamsville Storm Shelter will open Thursday evening for those who need shelter from the cold.
