We spent £3000 on a cruise but P&O canceled our booking… now we’re going to BLACKPOOL instead – we’re gutted

A COUPLE were devastated when P&O canceled their £3,000 cruise to the Canary Islands just a month in advance – now they’re going to Blackpool instead.

Claire and Keith Bromley from Silverdale, Lancashirecounted the days until their two-week getaway at the end of August, but their vacation plans quickly unraveled.

The pair embarked on the dream destination last year so they were heartbroken to receive the bad news from P&O Cruises a few weeks before the departure date.

Yet they were even more shocked when they found out the reason for the sudden cancellation.

P&O Cruises moved the Bromleys out of the cabin they had booked to use as covid isolation room instead.

The firm has apologized to the couple for their “Covid protocols”, but the couple are completely disappointed in their actions.

Claire – who suffers from muscular dystrophy – told Stoke on Trent live“We thought it was a joke.

“I asked why and they said it was because they wanted to use my disabled cabin as an isolation cabin – we were really disappointed about that.”

The 58-year-old added: “I asked if they could offer me another cabin and they said all the others were full. I’m really disgusted.

“A disabled cabin is larger to accommodate the wheelchair and has a walk-in shower. It is not fair.”

Thankfully P&O Cruises have refunded the cost of the trip – they also told StokeonTrentLive they are working to resolve the issue.

But it’s too late for Claire and Keith, who have booked themselves another break to Blackpool instead.

Claire was also devastated to lose an extra £500 on Assurance for the cruise that is due to him health problems – money she says she can’t get back.

She added: ‘We were thrilled because we had been trying to book a cruise for over three years. When we found out we were on this one, we were really happy.

“From going on a cruise to going to Blackpool, it’s a bit of a step backwards. We’ve been using them for a long time and they let us down.

“I asked for compensation and they said we could have £400 each but had to spend it on a P&O ship. We didn’t take it because we didn’t want to go back with P&O anymore.

“I wouldn’t recommend them to anyone. It feels like they kicked us in the teeth.

“They waited three weeks before boarding before deciding they wanted it for an isolation cabin. We are so angry that we want everyone to know it.

A P&O Cruises spokesperson said: “We are truly sorry that Ms Bromley had this experience which was due to our approved framework of Covid protocols and wellness measures.

“She has been fully reimbursed for her holiday and we would be delighted to welcome her on board in the future.”
