Beach lovers, what is the first destination that comes to mind when planning a beach getaway? It’s Goa, right? Well, maybe not anymore. An Airbnb study has revealed that Kerala has now overtaken Goa to become the most sought-after beach destination in India. Read on to find out more.

Airbnb study finds Kerala is India’s most sought-after beach getaway

A study by US-based rental platform Airbnb has revealed that Kerala has now become a more popular beach getaway than Goa for Indians. The study reveals that Airbnb saw a whopping 375% increase in travel searches for Kerala between Q3 2021 and Q3 2022. Goa, which once held the top spot, has now come in at number two with a 275% increase in searches. And Pondicherry took third place with an increase of more than 200% in travel searches.

This may be because the COVID-19 pandemic has left tourists looking for less touristy and less crowded beach getaways. Kerala is often known for its serene beaches, soothing Ayurvedic therapeutic retreats, delicious seafood, and even ancient temples. It perhaps offers a breath of fresh air away from the crowded beaches and expensive seafood beach shacks and souvenir stalls in Goa.

Uttarakhand is India’s favorite mountain destination

Meanwhile, when it comes to travelers choosing mountains over beaches, Uttarakhand saw a more than 100% increase in searches. And Himachal Pradesh saw a 50% increase in searches over the same period. Well, it seems that the hill stations of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh hold a special place in the hearts of travelers.
