Airbnb has seen a new generation of host properties added this year, and the best in Alabama is located in the Birmingham area.
“Bohemian basement apartment with hot tub” only started accepting guests earlier this year and already has about 120 registrations, according to the online accommodation app.
Located near Alford Avenue and Interstate 65, the cozy spot offers one bedroom, two beds, and one bath for $73 a night. It has a separate driveway and private entrance, along a shared fenced yard and accessible hot tub.
There is also a herb garden located out front for would-be chefs, with a selection of Thai basil, basil, coriander, parsley, mint, rosemary and strawberries.
According to the description on the site, the kitchen of the apartment is currently being renovated. But its main selling point, besides affordability, is accessibility, given the apartment’s proximity to Birmingham area outlets.
It’s been a big year for new hosts on Airbnb, according to the company. Between January and September 2022, new hosts in the United States collectively earned more than $1.5 billion in revenue on Airbnb. Closer to home, new hosts in Alabama with a single listing have earned over $17 million.
Of these new hosts nationwide, 52% have listings in urban areas versus 48% in rural areas.
