People don’t tend to build a lot of castles these days. Something to do with size, inconvenience, and not really needing to defend your land from medieval raiders. But castles are great. people should definitively build more castles.
If you’re a castle freak, this is the perfect vacation home for you. Santa Marta de Portuzelo is a castle in Portugal built in a late Gothic style. With elements dating back to the 12th century, Santa Marta has just about all the classic characteristics of a castle. Here you’ll find turrets, ramparts, loopholes, stone staircases, a tower, and even a chapel – all available for rent on Airbnb.
And that’s not all. Santa Marta also has three living rooms, two dining rooms and a modern kitchen. The property also has a private swimming pool, a watchtower, a 16th century fountain, a tunnel and an ornamental garden filled with orange trees, lemon trees, olive trees, chestnut trees, of palms, cypresses, walnuts and fig trees. The cost of all this is £671 ($876) per night, which might seem like a lot, but it’s not if you’re bringing a bunch of friends with you. Santa Marta has 12 bedrooms and sleeps up to 16 people, so if you pack it up and split the cost among your friends it would only cost £42 ($55) per person per night. Which is damn reasonable, if you ask us.
