🌱 Teenagers Arrested in Fatal Shooting + Community Gardener Wanted

Hi Dallas. I’m here in your inbox this morning to tell you everything you need to know about what’s happening in town.

But first, today’s weather:

A few thunderstorms, some violent. High: 68 Low: 49.

Here are the top three stories in Dallas today:

  1. Four teenagers have been arrested after a shooting Friday night in the Dallas Far East left one dead and another injured. The shooting took place in the 9300 block of Beck Avenue. A 17-year-old man was found injured in the leg, but as officers began to investigate, another shootout was sparked at East RL Thornton Freeway and East Grand Avenue, where a 19-year-old was found fatally shot. Two 17-year-olds and two 18-year-olds were arrested for the shooting. A fifth suspect is still at large since Monday. (The Dallas Morning News)
  2. The East Dallas neighborhood of Dolphin Heights celebrates the grand opening of the new Garden Cottage in its community garden. The beloved garden was cared for from its opening in 20o5 by Wille Hill until his death in 2019 at the age of 93. To honor his memory, a local non-profit association built the cottage, which will house a new gardener. They will be responsible for maintaining the garden, organizing volunteers and preserving the heritage of the garden. (NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth)
  3. The City of Dallas has been widely advised by the City Plan Commission to prevent short-term rentals in single-family residential neighborhoods. The committee voted 9-4 on the matter. The decision could affect more than 2,000 residents of the city. Short-term rentals like Airbnb aren’t technically allowed in the city — they just haven’t been banned. (Denton Record Chronicle)
