3 injured in shooting at Pin Chasers bowling alley in Tampa

None of the injuries were life-threatening.

TAMPA, Fla. — Police say a man has been arrested in connection with a shooting that injured three Sunday night at a Tampa bowling alley.

It happened just after 11 p.m. Pin hunters on Armenia Avenue.

According to Major Eric DeFelice, two groups of people argued in the parking lot before gunshots rang out from both sides.

Officers say upon arrival they saw a car speeding away from the area. Police caught up with the car and the two people inside at St. Joseph’s Hospital emergency room. Both people had been shot and suffered non-life-threatening injuries, according to the police department.

According to police, one of the people had a gun and another weapon was found in the car.

One of the people in the hospital was Cedrick Deshawn Durham Jr., 21, according to Maj. DeFelice. He was arrested and charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm and discharging a firearm in public.

A third person, a bystander, was found inside the bowling alley and taken to hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound, police said.

“We’re very lucky no one else got hit,” DeFelice said.

The major added that authorities were looking for “multiple shooters” and asking the public for help.

In a statement, Pin Chasers CEO Anthony Perrone called the shooting “an incredibly unfortunate and frightening moment.”

In addition to closing Monday for repairs, Perrone wrote that the bowling alley will only be open during evening league games and will close at 10 p.m. for the immediate future.

Mental health professionals will be made available to employees, he added.

Perrone’s statement said, in part:

“Please know that all threats to the safety of our staff, management and our wonderful bowling community are taken seriously and will be thoroughly investigated. We are cooperating fully with the Tampa Police Department in the investigation into this incident.

“For nearly 65 years, we have served the Tampa Bay community and the city of Tampa. The Pin Chasers Midtown location is our first and oldest location and has served the West Tampa area and beyond for 64 years. We love our community and the neighborhoods we serve, and the family and friends who have trusted us since 1958. It hurts us terribly to know that others would deliberately endanger our staff and guests at this place where so many people have enjoyed bowling with us over the years.

“We will continue to work with our community law enforcement partners, like the TPD, and create even stronger solutions to keep our staff and the bowling community safe. We look forward to continuing to be Tampa’s choice for bowling, food and fun.”
