Site design unveiled for Bloomington World Expo 2027 proposal
Backers of the US bid to host the 2027 World Expo in Bloomington have unveiled their vision for a new expo site near the Mall of America.
The big picture: State and local leaders are in Paris this week to lay out the groundwork to bring the Bureau International des Expositions’ upcoming specialist exhibition to the suburbs of the Twin Cities.
Why is this important: The show is like the State Fair on steroids. Supporters say the 93-day gathering would attract around 7 million visitors and inject $2 billion into the economy.
Enlarge: Site plans presented in Paris on Monday call for transforming two vacant city-owned plots into an “exhibition district” including an international conference center, a new host pavilion structure, stages and an elevated promenade inspired by the ” High Line” of New York, according to the Minneapolis-St. Paul’s business diary.
- To note : Development of the venues would be privately funded, according to a spokesperson for the Minnesota USA Expo 2027 organization.
And after: Bloomington’s offering, which is themed “Healthy People, Healthy Planet,” clashes with proposed locations in Thailand, Serbia, Spain and Argentina.
- Expositions International officials will visit the proposed host city this fall before making a decision next summer.
