Sunnyvale, Calif. Airbnb Says It’s Chasing Guest After Party
Airbnb said it is taking legal action against a guest who hosted an unauthorized party with 150 to 200 guests in California.
The San Francisco-based company said in a statement to McClatchy News Tuesday that it had made the guest aware of legal claims and damages for an Aug. 7 party in Sunnyvale. The event was in violation of Airbnb’s “global holiday ban”, first implemented in August 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic and extended in May 2021 until the end of summer .
“As part of the ban, we have also taken steps within our platform to promote responsible behavior, such as removing the ‘event-appropriate’ search filter and removing all rules from the house “parties and events allowed” on the lists, “the company said.
Airbnb said the guest “booked the ad under false pretenses” and was banned from the platform, the statement said. The list has also been deactivated.
The company said it has taken similar legal action against guests who hosted unauthorized parties in Sacramento, Cincinnati and Dallas, as well as other cities.
Airbnb also announced Tuesday that overnight bookings will be blocked over Halloween weekend in the US and Canada to “help prevent unauthorized parties,” with the exception of “customers with a history of positive opinions “.
