A Place In The Sun presenter Jonnie Irwin is determined to make the most of his “last Christmas” and has shared photos of taking his son to see Santa Claus.

TV favorite took his eldest son Rex, three, on a day out where he could meet the big man himself and get into the holiday spirit.

“Okay, I gave in, Christmas is here! Nothing wrong with the pies and mulled wine on offer at all! Merry Christmas!” Irwin, who is living with terminal cancer, written next to collection.

In the photos, Irwin beamed next to Rex, with his wife Jess also by his side, wrapping up against the cold in thick coats and festive sweaters.

They later settled down for a cup of hot chocolate, before seeing Santa Claus in his dressing room, where Rex shared what he wanted for Christmas.

The family then took a group selfie with Santa, who gave the camera a thumbs-up.

In another photo, the trio posed in front of animatronic reindeer heads attached to the wall.

Something tells us that Rex, along with his two-year-old twin brothers, Rafa and Cormac, will be receiving additional special gifts this year.

The joyful holiday day arrives as Irwin, 49, prepares for the possibility of this being his last Christmas.

In November, the Place in the sun star revealed that his cancer diagnosis was terminal and he only had six months left to live.

Irwin’s diagnosis – initially lung cancer before it spread to his brain – was hidden from the public for two years as he wanted to continue his normal life, and worried that people would “treat him differently”.

Now he hopes to make the most of his remaining time with his family.

“I don’t know how much time I have left, but I try to stay positive and my attitude is that I’m living with cancer and not dying from it,” he said. Good morning! Magazine.

“I put little markers – things I want to be for. I got into the habit of saying, ‘Don’t plan ahead because maybe I’m not doing well enough.’ But now I want to make plans.

“I want to make memories and capture those moments with my family because the reality is my boys are going to grow up not knowing their dad and that breaks my heart.”
