A retreat that will make you feel like royalty – The Western Weekender

The Drift Beach House offers impressive accommodation in Lake Macquarie.

The town of Lake Macquarie is like a crown with beautiful gems spread along the vast coastline, making it the perfect vacation destination no matter the time of year.

My fiancé and I discovered that one of Australia’s largest saltwater lakes offered more than meets the eye when we recently visited it for a long weekend.

While some might think accommodations don’t matter if you’re on the go, the Drift Beach House we stayed in certainly set the tone for our whole trip, as well as making for some great Instagram photos.

This stylish brand new Airbnb at Blacksmiths was cozy with its high quality coastal touches and the perfect place to relax after a busy day or even a short walk to the beach or nearby shops. Book here: www.bit.ly/3CaP7oF.

After making the 1.5 hour drive from Penrith I had an early dinner on my mind, so we headed to Crusoe’s on the Lake in Belmont on Friday evening.

With a view of the Lake Macquarie Yacht Club waterfront, the bistro was bustling with fun-loving patrons and when we received our delicious fresh meals from the friendly and attentive staff, we understood why.

After a good night’s sleep, we enjoyed a lazy Saturday lunch at the Caves Coastal Bar and Bungalows, sharing arancini, pizza and chicken wings.

You could sit in the beer garden by the sea all day, but we decided to walk along Caves Beach at low tide to explore the network of sea caves, which was a unique experience.

Ready to hit the water, the incredible opportunity presented itself to set sail on a 48-foot yacht for a two-hour sunset cruise from Trinity Point.

The owners of Sail Lake Macquarie, Roy and Maxine have so much passion for serving their guests and go above and beyond for you.

The serenity of the lake, combined with a few glasses of wine, a pasture board and a beautiful sunset made this a highlight of the whole weekend that I highly recommend.

Another day and another location found us at the Common Circus for breakfast, which seemed to be the coffee lover’s favorite spot.

After perusing the cute cafe shop, we got our takeout orders and considered a dip in the Belmont Baths, but decided to wander a few piers.

Now, after so much relaxation, the idea of a jet boat thrill ride on a Sunday made me a little nervous if I’m being honest, but I was definitely pleasantly surprised. Located on the quayside of Rafferty’s Resort, JettBuzz Watersports is run by Simon who is truly a professional at what he does.

JettBuzz Watersports helps put adventure into your Lake Macquarie getaway.

The Ocean Extreme Ride gives you an incredible tour of the lake and caves, plus the adrenaline rush of spinning and diving through the ocean waves. Laughter and screams are guaranteed.

After drying off all our fun, we wanted to see the lake from a new perspective, so we ditched the traffic and hopped on the Lake Mac Ferry.

Our destination for the day was Speers Point, which was packed with families enjoying the winter sun in the park.

At the end was the Multi-Arts Pavilion which is a cleverly designed cube that acts as a fantastic community and cultural space that features exhibitions, performances and more.

We would have loved to jump on the Beam bikes, which you can easily access via an app, but we had a ferry to catch, so enjoyed the thrilling water one last time on the return trip.

Whether you are looking for great food, art, fun for the kids or pure relaxation, Lake Macquarie is a retreat that will make you feel like royalty after a getaway there.
