Airbnb CEO unveils price transparency changes for December

(NewsNation) — Airbnb is unveiling new features to make pricing more transparent for hosts and users next month, the company’s CEO announced on Twitter on Monday.

“I heard you loud and clear – you feel like pricing isn’t transparent and payment tasks are a pain”, CEO Brian Chesky tweeted.

As Chesky suggested in his tweet, guests have complained that Airbnb’s host cleaning fees and service fees end up costing more than they expected based on their initial insight into the nightly rate.

Chesky plans to address complaints with four changes, including:

  • Being able to see the total price in advance.
  • Prioritize total price (instead of overnight price) in their search ranking algorithm.
  • Enable hosts to set more competitive prices by launching new pricing and discount tools.
  • And reduce “unreasonable” payment requests.

“If hosts have payment requests, they should be reasonable and presented to you before booking,” Chesky tweeted.

After lose about 37% of its stock value in 2022Airbnb briefly took a break from the increase in travel during the summer months.

With current inflation figureshowever, the vacation rental company is once again feeling an economic pinch and hoping to win back customers.

“We started out as an affordable alternative to hotels, and affordability is especially important today. In these tough economic times, we need to help our hosts bring you great value,” Chesky tweeted.
