Airbnb invites its guests to stay in a 17th century wall in Germany

When it comes to non-traditional accommodations, Airbnb has something for just about everyone: multi-million dollar pensions, vast italian castlesJulia Child’s Provencal cottageand yes, even treehouses. And now? Something the history buff will want to shell out: a night in one of Butzbach, Germany habitable medieval “walls”.

Bear with us. planet alone reports that Butzbach, about 22 miles north of Frankfurt’s financial center, was once home to 100 of these “wall houses”. The structures, built in the 1750s, were used for storage, and later, as housing for the city’s poorer citizens, with goats, chickens and pigs kept on the first floor. But in 2005, two of the remaining spaces benefited from a €200,000 ($216,000) architectural renovation, according to Apartment Therapy. Given their position – on a very narrow street six feet wide – a crane had to be used to rehabilitate the structures.

It’s literally a hole in the wall.

This unit is tiny — 300 square feet, specifically, and, as the listing notes, it’s “probably the the smallest house in Butzbach. But considering what the space lacks in square footage, the design is impressive: three floors, a dining room and kitchen (with a washing machine!), room with a shower, and even a terrace in the space of what was once the rampart of the wall.

cobbled streets, a bustling village around the corner, and only $55 to be able to say you spent a night in a wall? It’s really worth it.
