Airbnb names owner of treetop yurt in Texas
A man hitherto known as Derek – like Beyonce and Socrates before him – has been named Texas’ Best New Host of 2022.
“My wife and I are incredibly grateful and honored to be awarded the Best New Host in Texas award,” Derek told MySA. “We are thrilled to be able to share the beauty of the Texas Hill Country with guests from around the world.”
The 16-sided “Tangled Oak Yurt”, as it’s called, is a one-bedroom, one-bathroom treehouse with a 300-square-foot deck that’s embedded in a gargantuan live oak tree. Situated on nine acres of private property in the Hill Country, Derek’s yurt is secluded yet in the heart of the brewery/kitchen/distillery corridor west of Austin. It has a propane BBQ and fire pit and outdoor table for entertaining.
Inside, the yurt has seven windows and a four-foot circular skylight dome for stargazing. It also has a 50-inch TV, kitchenette, and Keurig coffee bar for glamping.
At this time the yurt can be booked for $214 per night at Airbnb. Derek says they are adding an addition to the property in 2023, “The Hidden Oak Yurt”.
To be eligible, each host had to first have listed their only Airbnb property in 2022, had the most registrations for their state, and achieved Superhost status – book the joint for 100 nights, meet 90% or more messages, cancel less than 1% of bookings and maintain a rating of 4.8 or higher.
