Arkansas Airbnb owner among global winners sharing $10 million prize for building the most OMGs! stays

VILONIA, Ark. – T-minus 10 seconds… and sleep?

A central Arkansas Airbnb owner is one of 100 worldwide to share a $10 million award for his inventive place to stay.

The OH MY GOD! Fund competitionwhich was sponsored by the popular accommodation and short-term experiences company, narrowed the choice down to thousands of applicants and ended up choosing an Arkansan as one of the winners.

GT Hill owns and operates the Titan Ranch near Vilonia, which is already one of the most unusual Airbnbs in the state in the form of a deactivated Titan II nuclear missile silo.

The resort has been serving as an Airbnb since November 2020 and includes 4,000 square feet of subterranean luxury.

The silo was originally designed to release the most produced intercontinental ballistic missiles by the United States.

“I have the biggest gun in America, I just can’t find ammo,” Hill joked.

Hill now plans to build a second Airbnb location, this one being a replica of the Titan II missile, which will also be for overnight stays.

“I wonder if I’ll get any calls from the government when I start building this,” he said.

Hill plans to build the replica on its side and above ground, with dimensions of 103 feet by 10 feet in diameter.

But instead of filling it with rocket fuel and a 9-megaton warhead, it will seat four people and have two bathrooms.

During the Cold War, Arkansas housed 18 of the 54 Titan II missile silos that were ready for use between the early 1960s and late 1980s.

“Ultimately, we’re trying to create an unforgettable experience for visitors, and I think allowing them to see the magnitude of a missile and actually stay in it will help with that goal,” Hill said.

Hill said he would hire workers for some of the work while doing part of the project himself, with plans to complete the replica by the end of August 2023.
