Arona man charged with burglary, forcible confinement

A 44-year-old Arona man was arrested by state police on Monday after being charged with breaking into a woman’s residence in Derry Township and transporting her to outside before she could free herself, according to court records.

Shawn E. Grbach was arrested at the scene after the woman called police around 2 p.m.

He was charged with burglary, criminal trespassing, disorderly conduct, false imprisonment and harassment and was released on an unsecured bond of $7,000 after his arraignment.

The woman told police that Grbach had come to her house uninvited, entered through a basement door and carried her outside “saying he would never let her go.”

She managed to escape and run home, Private Luke Hanko said. The woman and other members of her family asked Grbach to leave, but he refused and waited for the soldiers to arrive.

Grbach, who recently resided in West Newton, told soldiers “he was joking” before police arrested him.

He is awaiting trial in a complaint filed by county detectives last fall after he was accused of intimidating a witness in an ongoing abuse protection case, according to court filings. line.

Attempts to reach Grbach for comment were unsuccessful. His hearing on the new complaint is scheduled for June 8.
